AmyL5 Stars Out Of 5Do you know your Chazown?May 30, 2017AmyLQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5It's rare these days that I sit down with a book and immediately get excited. But I sat down with Craig Groeschel's book Chazown last week and my pen went flying! I felt like he was speaking exactly to the heart of all I've hoped to be able to convey here at Be The Proof. And I'm hoping it helps me begin to put into words better the heart and mission behind this blog!
Chazown: Discover and Pursue God's Purpose for Your Life is newly revised in this 2017 edition. I haven't seen the first edition of this book, but I can tell you that this book is FULL of information! Just paging through, I knew I would be gaining a lot of information. With diagrams and pictures, Groeschel explains the finer points of Chazown clearly and concisely.
Chazown basically is the Hebrew word for vision. It's what leads and directs your life. Think of it like a gift from God!
One of the things I've felt desperate for here on the blog lately is some vision. To be honest, I got lost in the sea of book reviews and lost my purpose. This book landed in my lap at the best moment possible. As I gear up for a little mini-break, I'm taking all I've learned in Chazown and putting it into practice as I figure out what's next!
First, Groeschel begins the book by reminding us that when we are working out of our Chazown, we are actually given 4 gifts that keep us going. We are given focus, endurance, peace, and a passion. I know I'm not the only one wishing for a little bit more of that in my life!
You will move through finding your vision by examining your core values, spiritual gifts, and past experiences you will take a journey to figure out what you've been uniquely designed to do. Then, you are shown how to name your Chazown and put it into action. Finally, Groeschel breaks down the parts that make of Chazown. As you look to small areas of your life to pour into, you are able to do something big. Lastly, Groeschel reminds us that we cannot do any of this alone! Your community is so important. Perhaps why a couple of the last books I've read have been about friendship! (Never Unfriended and Messy Beautiful Friendship.)
If you're not sure what's next in life, this is the book for you! If you're feeling adrift like me, this is definitely the next step for you. Take some time to learn. To pour into yourself. Find your vision. To gain that focus, endurance, peace and passion you need to continue on.
I received a copy of this book from Blogging For Books. This review is my own, honest opinion.
LorettaDallas, GeorgiaAge: 45-54Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Eye opening, practical readApril 27, 2017LorettaDallas, GeorgiaAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Wow, put on your boots! This book is deep, filled with assignments that dig deep into your life to question what your doing with your life, and whether you are doing what God has called you to do. Points you towards defining your core values, helps you to identify spiritual gifts/"talents" God has gifted you with. Considering the serious topic, Craig writes with humor, and uses stories to help guide the reader, and uses self assessments that are scattered throughout the book, which has very short chapters/sections, to guide the reader to identify their life's purpose. Good for small groups, or individuals. What I like too, is that Craig has a Website that has free resources to help in your journey of discovery. I am actually going to go through it again slowly and let it sink in.
A practical read. I highly recommend it. I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.
Leona Martin5 Stars Out Of 5FantasticJuly 19, 2012Leona MartinQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a fantastic book and study. It is much better when done with a small group of close friends. This needs to be a very close knit group because it gets very, very personal. It is a rollercoaster of emotions but well worth the outcome. Just to know God's purpose for each one of us is tremendous!. Very highly recommend this study.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to say it either; but that is the only issue I had_ well, until I opened the book. Partly because the author, and pastor of LifeChurch.tv, Craig Groeschel, helps you with the pronunciation at the very beginning of the book. But also, you get past not quite getting the pronunciation because it is really of no consequence unless you are reading it out-loud to an audience; and in that instance, you could simply agree with your audience to pronounce it how ever you choose, just as long as they understand what you are saying.
Enough about the title, though. This book, Chazown: Define Your Vision. Pursue Your Passion. Live Your Life on Purpose., is an incredible book. It is the only adult* book that I know of that has chapters as short as the chapters inside, that encourages you to take as long as possible to read the book, and is still so powerful. (*I don't mean adult in a dirty way, but simply in terms of the target audience.) This book really helped my wife and I to focus on the vision, passion, and purpose God has placed inside of us. The 2-to-6-page chapters made it easy to pick it up when you had a few minutes and read, well, a whole chapter in just minutes! Every chapter and/or part of the book has questions and action steps to actually put into practice the message of the book; and the author wants you to actually take breaks from reading and focus on different aspects of your life, only returning to the book once you are ready for the next part. Despite the easy read, and the breaks for applying the principles, this book packs a powerful message coupled with an extremely practical application that I have not seen in any other Christian Living book. (Other than the Bible, of course!) ;)
God Loving OH MomNortheastern OhioAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Requires some serious digging and soul-searching!April 19, 2011God Loving OH MomNortheastern OhioAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I recently received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. Couldn't wait to tear into it! Make sure you set aside time to not only read, but to do some serious soul-searching.
Of course, no book will give you answers to change your life. But rather, it can be used as a tool to aid us in our search for significance. It will ultimately be God who leads you on your customized journey.
Craig Groeschel has written this book as a blueprint for figuring out what we're created to do. It's like "The Purpose Driven Life" was just the introduction and this is the meat-filled portion of the "how to" book.
But be warned! This book is not a book that can just be read. This requires our time, energy, and sweat. Throughout the chapters, readers are challenged with questions; deeper questions than we're probably used to. But if you take the time to do the "homework" assignments, as I refer to them, you will discover more about who you were created to be-not to mention more about who the Creator is!
This book encourages you to dream big with God standing beside you. He really does want to give us the "desires of our hearts." What's yours?
