Lynette Eason continues to put out top notch Christian suspense, and seems to get better with each book she writes. My only complaint about her books, is they all seem more geared to women readers, with most of her books having only women on the cover, and revolving around a female character..... but I still love her books.
This has been another awesome series by her, and it sadly ends with this 4th book in the series, Chasing Secrets. It is quite different than her other books, as she starts the book out in Ireland 25 years in a prologue chapter before the actual story starts, and the events in Ireland effect the main character and events of the rest of the book.
Chasing Secrets brings back some of the same characters from the rest of the books, along with several new ones, most of them likable......some not so much.
I am struggling through a book right now by a suspense author I used to love. There is no action, and it is difficult to get through. This book is far from that. It has non-stop action and drama, and a lot of surprises. The book is definitely unpredictable, other than the romance angle......which even this confirmed bachelor enjoyed.
I started this book on my lunch break at work yesterday and also read it on my second break, and it was very difficult to put it down and go back to work both times. Immediately after getting home and eating supper, I dove back into it and didn't put it down until I finished it..... then read a few favorite parts again. This is one of Eason's best books, and that is saying a lot considering how great her other books are.
As part of the story, Haley takes an interest in two boys with no father, and the events surrounding them add even more to the story, and I loved the conclusion of that part.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. Christian in content, great characters, awesome non-stop suspense, and yeah.....even the romance, which wasn't gushy or overdone. Eason has another book she can rightly be proud of, and again shows why she is one of my top favorite authors.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A chilling cold case, a long lost family, the start of a swoony romance, and bad guys behind every page - this story is one wild ride!
Haley's story is finally told, and I have to you, it's staggering! I really want to say more, but I don't want to give anything away, so you'll just have to read the book. *winks and grins* I have always loved the long lost family trope, and this story is no different. While Haley's story really thrilled me, Steven's spiritual story touched my heart. Through Steven's heartbreaking tragedy and some wonderfully veiled references, Lynette Eason shows readers how forgiveness can lead to a new heart.
I liked that Haley and Steven's romance was slow because otherwise it would have felt too fast for me. By the end of the overall story, they were just starting to date, and an epilogue gave me the Happily Ever After that I love so much.
Four Stars - An excellent conclusion to an exciting series! Chasing Secrets is the fourth and final book in Lynette Eason's Elite Guardians Series, and I think readers will be very pleased! Chasing Secrets is its own independent story, and very few references are made to the previous books, so readers will not be confused if they consume the stories out of order.
I received a copy of Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. All opinions expressed are my own.
Chasing Secrets is an exciting suspense! Haley and Steven are complex characters, and their story is brimming with intrigue. The drama and danger unfold quickly, and the cleverly crafted plot kept me guessing until the end. With its thrilling twists and turns, Chasing Secrets is my favorite of the Elite Guardians, a series I recommend for suspense readers who enjoy strong characters and unique story elements.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.
** "I just have to focus on the fact that God is perfect and sovereign in every way. And that in the end, he will serve justice to those who deserve it. It's my job just to believe that. And trust it." **
Lynette Eason wraps up her Elite Guardian series about a group of female bodyguards with "Chasing Secrets," which takes on the story of the mysterious Elite member Haley Callaghan.
Haley has a heart of gold and always jumps to help those in need, especially troubled teens. When she gets pulled into the lives of 16-year-old Zeke Hampton and his sickly brother Micah, her life is forever changed. Add to that an abrupt introduction to her past, much of which she doesn't remember, learning about her connection to the powerful and lucrative Burke family in Ireland, and Haley's life is suddenly thrown into a tailspin. And on top of everything else, she finds herself a target in a very dangerous game, one in which she doesn't even know who the players are.
Detective Steven Rothwell has returned home to South Carolina to be near his dad who is sick with cancer. When his series of cases begins to intersect with Haley's situations, he is quickly drawn into her world, becoming intrigued by and attracted to her.
"Chasing Secrets" is a novel full of twists and turns, leaving you to guess who is after Haley. But it is also much more than just a romantic thriller. Haley herself reminds us to always be a haven of hope to others, and helps us think about the true definition of family. This story shows us the importance of forgiveness and not letting hate take root in our lives and to find contentment, peace and acceptance instead; we can't change the past, but we can use the past to help others in the present; God, through his infinite grace and mercy, offers perfect justice; and the possibility of but difficulty in overcoming betrayal. A huge theme throughout "Chasing Secrets" is having a new heart -- both literally and figuratively.
Eason knows how to add just enough romance to her thrilling tales, and she did it again with "Chasing Secrets." She is an expert at writing amazing characters who draw you in. Although this story delves more deeply into Haley's story, readers will recognize many other characters from the prior novels, including Haley's fellow Elite team members.
My only "complaint"? It's the final novel of the series.
Five stars out of five.

After reading Moving Target I wasn't sure how Eason would be able to match not only the intensity but the thrill. Yet just pages into Chasing Secrets I was hooked! The plot of this novel was intense, thrilling, and gripping. Every chapter added to the suspense yet Eason always finds a way to weave in a love story to soften the novel. Steven was by far the best love interest I have read in a while, he is a compassionate and a true kind hearted person. Haley has a history that pulls at your heart strings and makes you want to learn more. I thoroughly enjoyed Chasing Secrets and have loved the Elite Guardians series. Lynette Eason has such an amazing writing style I can't wait to read what she writes next.
