Iorg puts insightful chapter-long emphasis on nine important character-shaping qualities that help readers in "becoming the leader God intends me to be rather than doing the leading God intends me to do." The nine qualities are: Integrity, Security, Purity, Humility, Servanthood, Wisdom, Discipline, Courage, and Passion.
Rick Warren, author of The Purpose-Driven Life
"Jeff Iorg defines lasting leadership as character, not capacity or competency. The making of a great leader is built on what God intends you to be rather than doing the leading God intends for you to do. His purpose is first and foremost to shape you into the image of Jesus, the greatest leader of all time."
James T. Draper, Jr., president emeritus, LifeWay Christian Resources
"An enormous contribution to the critical area of ministry and leadership. A must read for every ministry that strives for excellence. I recommend it without reservation."
J. Robert White, executive director, Georgia Baptist Convention
"Iorg is imminently qualified to write this volume on leadership . . . the chapters on integrity and purity are very much needed in our times and worth the investment of your time."
Jeff Iorg, president of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, is also the author of The Character of Leadership and Is God Calling Me? He holds degrees from Hardin Simmons University and Midwestern and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminaries and has answered God's call to be a church planter, pastor, and denominational executive. Jeff and his wife, Ann, live in Mill Valley, California.
A Letter From Jeff Iorg▼▲
Christian leadership is so demanding these days! The challenges and temptations require men and women of character. So many leaders today compartmentalize their lives, living one way while trying to lead others by a different standard. God has a different plan.
God wants you to grow, to develop your character, both in preparation for leadership and while you are leading. It is essential you keep growing, keep developing greater reservoirs of inner strength for the continuing and increasing demands you will face. My book, The Character of Leadership, will help you with this process.
Leaders must be learners, not just about leadership skills but about how spiritual formation happens. God is at work in you. This book will help you discern his ways and also choose disciplines and practices to help you grow. None of us have arrived! All of us can pursue more intently the lofty goal of the character of Jesus shaped in us.
Bruce Cannon3 Stars Out Of 5November 26, 2008Bruce CannonThis book contains some good points but much of it reminds me of listening to a seminary president who thinks he should write books. I enjoyed parts but others seemed like filler.
Pastor Brian5 Stars Out Of 5October 19, 2007Pastor BrianI have read this magnificent word that Jeff Irog has written. He takes Character development to a whole new level. Very insightful, thought provoking work that will help you to look at yourself more introspectively than you may have before. I am making this book required reading for the leaders in our church.
