The teen years have been hijacked—by fashion, music, movies, and games; by the pressures of school, peers, and society; and by superficial expectations set by the world. But there is something more glorious than all these influences that has the power to change the life of a teenager: the gospel.
Written by a teenager for teenagers, This Changes Everything is a deeply theological yet practical and accessible book on how the gospel radically transforms every aspect of the teen years, including pursuing relationships, managing time, combating personal sin, and cultivating healthy habits. In a culture awash with low expectations for young people, this book exhorts teenagers to embrace a gospel-centered perspective on their lives and pursue wholehearted devotion to Christ now.

Jaquelle Crowe (BA, Thomas Edison State University) is a young writer from eastern Canada. Shes the lead writer and editor-in-chief of TheRebelution.com and a contributor to the Gospel Coalition, desiringGod.org, and Unlocking the Bible. Her first book is This Changes Everything: How the Gospel Transforms the Teen Years.
"No longer little children, not quite independent adults, teenhood is the fast transition between the two. In all the changes, wise teens need straight talk—bold talk!—the kind of advice that is sharp enough to help them cut through the false promises and lies of our culture and blunt enough to push back all the old, tired stereotypes of teenagers. You found it! This book is fearless, lucid, God focused, and gospel drenched, all applied in concrete practices, and aimed at nothing less than your eternal joy. These precious years are not the time to slack off, Jaquelle says, its the time to stand out. This book stands out as a valiant work from one teen serving other teens (and those who love them)!"
—Tony Reinke, staff writer and researcher, desiringGod.org; author, Lit! A Christian Guide to Reading Books and 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You
"In a culture where many young people feel entitled and struggle through swamps of victimization, Jaquelle Crowe calls her fellow teens to Christian discipline. She wants them to choose the hard tasks, the road of discipline, the life of obedience and service to Christ, in response to the gospel of grace. May she and her fellow visionaries—and there is a growing number of them!—follow this path to the end, empowered by transforming grace."
—D. A. Carson, Research Professor of New Testament, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; Cofounder, The Gospel Coalition
"Jaquelle Crowe writes her first book with this purpose: that the gospel will change your life, that you will surrender all to the cause of Christ. That is a compelling purpose, and one that many teenagers will embrace wholeheartedly, thanks to this book. May Christ bless Jaquelle and use her book toward that glorious end!"
—Ray Ortlund, Lead Pastor, Immanuel Church, Nashville, Tennessee; council member, The Gospel Coalition; President, Renewal Ministries; author, Marriage and the Mystery of the Gospel
"Jaquelle's zeal for the gospel is contagious. This book is enjoyable and practical, but the effect thereof is individual transformation with global ramifications. I pray that a multitude of teenagers would take up and read this book."
—Gloria Furman, author, The Pastor's Wife, Missional Motherhood, and Alive in Him
"One of my hopes for the church is that we would take seriously those in the teen years, that we would speak to them as those capable of and accountable for understanding the implications of a vibrant faith. Jaquelle Crowe does this, and even better, she does so as a peer. In This Changes Everything, both Jaquelle's practical words and her positive example offer needed encouragement to other teens. And they deeply encouraged this mother of teens, as well."
—Jen Wilkin, author, Women of the Word and None Like Him; Bible Teacher
"Paul told Timothy to set an example and not let anyone despise his youth. Jaquelle is a young woman who embodies this truth and demonstrates the power of the gospel for young leaders. She describes her book as a chicken nugget. It's for those old enough to stop gumming baby food. She's right. There's a lot here to chew on. I recommend this book for both you and the young people in your life."
—Dan DeWitt, Director, Center for Biblical Apologetics and Public Christianity, Cedarville University; author, Christ or Chaos and Jesus or Nothing
"Jaquelle Crowe is an outstanding writer, not just for a teenager, but for anyone. Writing takes work, as does following Jesus, and in This Changes Everything, the author has done her work well. Reading this book was a pleasure; its biblical, challenging and refreshing. Jaquelles heart comes across clearly, her theology is strong, and what she says about church is desperately needed. I highly recommend this book both for teenage Christians and their parents."
—Randy Alcorn, Founder and Director, Eternal Perspective Ministries; author, Heaven, The Treasure Principle, and The Ishbane Conspiracy
"Jaquelle writes as a teenager to teenagers. She writes with skill, with passion, and with a firm grounding in Scripture. I could list the many strengths of her book, but perhaps the most effective endorsement is this: I will gladly give This Changes Everything to my own teenagers with confidence that it will be a blessing to them.
—Tim Challies, blogger, Challies.com
"This is a great book written by a bright young person, where Jaquelle clearly shows what young people can and should be challenged with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In a brief and very readable text, the author explains what the gospel is—what it demands and how it saves more than how it benefits us. The message of the cross is not a pragmatic message but rather a radically transforming and life-giving message. Read it and you will find what I just said to be true. I recommend it, especially for young people, parents, and young leaders."
—Miguel Núñez, Senior Pastor, International Baptist Church, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; President, Wisdom & Integrity Ministries
"In a culture where teens have been given a free pass to live self-focused, immature, irresponsible lives, they desperately need to know that they were created for a bigger purpose. In This Changes Everything, Jaquelle brings the gospel to life by showing how relevant and applicable it is to our modern generation. This book is a must for all teens!
—Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird, Founders, Girl Defined Ministries; authors, Girl Defined: Gods Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity, and Identity
"Powerful! Packed with the fundamental values of the Christian faith, This Changes Everything does an excellent job presenting what truly matters most to my generation. A simple, yet profound book, I would recommend This Changes Everything to any young person eager to start taking their faith seriously."
—Trent Blake, age 17, Mulberry, Florida
"We teenagers are at a confusing and impressionable place in our culture. Without clear direction on why and how we should be living as Christians, its easy to just give up. With plenty of real-life illustrations,This Changes Everything clearly explains why the gospel matters so much and challenges us to live for the glory of God."
—Olivia White, age 13, Mebane, North Carolina
"So often, as teenagers, we get caught up in school, sports, and other activities and forget that our lives should really be about God. In this book, Jaquelle points us back to the Creator of all things and his wonderful plan for us. And she doesnt just leave it as ushy-gushy feelings. With a humble attitude, she shows what it looks like to take this good news and allow it to transform our lives. I highly recommend this book!"
—Jason Zimmerman, age 16, Ithaca, New York
"This book was phenomenal. Jaquelle writes personally and she has a way of making you think deeper than is comfortable. As a young Christian myself, this book cut straight through me and gave me a deeper yearning for Christ, as well as practical ways to live a life more like Christs. She is on point with everything she says and uses the Bible as the basis for everything."

Theron St. John5 Stars Out Of 5A Gospel Feast for TeensAugust 27, 2017Theron St. JohnQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Bible study lesson lingered in my mind. The study on Ephesians 4 left me to consider how to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). As a pastor over the youth ministry at the church, my concern was not how to equip Christians generally but how to encourage the application of this Scripture passage into the lives of our churchs teenagers. Mindful of my teenage years, my passion as pastor was and is to equip teenagers to serve the Lord. Moreover, I want them to see the implications of the gospel in every facet of their lives. For this reason, I am grateful for This Changes Everything: How The Gospel Transforms the Teen Years.
A Quick Look at a Gospel-Focused Lens
Written by a teenager for teenagers, author Jaquelle Crowe shares and shows what it looks like for teenagers to live as whole-hearted Jesus-followers. Each chapter of This Changes Everything observes an area of the teenagers life through the lens of the gospel. The book begins by helping teenagers understand who they are in relation to God and His story (chapters 12). With a firm foundation laid, Jaquelle shows how the gospel impacts a teenagers view of the church, the need for its community, and their view of sin, including the seemingly ordinary sins (chapters 34). She also shares the proper motive for and necessary practice of spiritual disciplines in the Christian life (chapter 5) and the role discernment plays in a teenagers growth (chapter 6). The book closes with stewardship of time (chapter 7) and biblical principles for relationships (chapter 8).
A Gospel Feast for Teenagers
This Changes Everything is a gospel feast for Jesus-following teenagers. Using the authors analogy of a chicken nugget (Crowe 13), this book is crisp with personal illustrations and historical examples, leading the reader to the meat of gospel-centered content found in every chapter. Miss Crowe lives what she writes. She engages teenagers with her transparency, humbly admitting where she falls short and boldly pointing her peers to Jesus Christ. The diagrams throughout the book provide visuals for teens to apply that particular implication of the gospel into their lives and the discussion questions at the end of each chapter engage teenagers to put their learning into practice. One of the most fruitful aspects of Jaquelles writing is her emphasis on intergenerational relationships. Sometimes adults can mark off teenagers in the church and teenagers can neglect interaction with adults in the church. This Changes Everything weds the two groups together, especially in discussing the church in chapter 3 and relationships in chapter 8. Her knowledge of church history is not only impressive but it encourages teenagers to broaden their learning to those who have gone before them in the Christian faith. Simply put, Jaquelle Crowe offers teenagers a theologically rich, immensely practical, and winsomely engaging book to apply the gospel in every area of life.
A Book for Teens and to Read with Teens
If you are a teenager who claims to be a Jesus-follower, then you need this book. If you know a teenager, then tell them about this book. If you desire for teenagers to know Jesus, then buy them this book. For parents and youth leaders, consider purchasing a copy for yourself as well and reading through the book together. This Changes Everything by Jaquelle Crowe is a must-read for teenagers and those who care for teenagers.
The Geeky Calvinist5 Stars Out Of 5A Great Book on the Teenagers Need For Christ Transformed LifeMay 25, 2017The Geeky CalvinistQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I picked up, This Changes Everything: How The Gospel Transforms The Teen Years, I expected it to be a book about youth ministry from the perspective of either a newer or veteran youth worker. With a subtitle of "How the Gospel Transforms the Teen Years" why would I not. Yet as I came to the introduction I realized that I was dead wrong. This book is a work written by a teenager about teenagers. After this I became skeptical, yet when I finish this book I realized how wrong my thinking had been.
There are so few books written by teenagers, and for good reason, for they do not always know how to communicate in a written way which is helpful. This Changes Everything, however is a notable exception. Every page of this work delves deep into explaining the simple yet life changing act of God's love. Author Jaquelle Crowe explains in her book how one must find their identity in Christ and all aspects of the Christian life which flow from it.
While many books have been written to adults about this topic comma this book asks the simple yet profound question "What does it look like for teenagers to live a life transformed by the gospel?" The shorter answer is it effects every single aspect of their lives. Crowe does a fantastic job of explaining this in intricate detail in a manner that teenagers will not only understand but resonate with comma calling each and every one of them to stand fast on the word of God so that they may glorify him in every aspect of their lives from their identity to their relationships in the church to their relationships with others outside the church. The gospel impacts every part, if it does not then you have not been transformed by the Gospels redeeming power. This book is not only recommended to be read by every teenager but by every youth worker to demonstrate to them the impact they must have on the life of a teenager under their care.

contemplativereflections4 Stars Out Of 5Book Review: This Changes EverythingMay 5, 2017contemplativereflectionsQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0In "This Changes Everything," Jaquelle Crowe hopes to encourage Christian teens to live all of life through the power of the gospel. Young Christians often think that what they do now is either insignificant or meaningless. However, Crow argues that the adolescent years are critical to the formation of a mature Christian life. The author reminds that all who have been saved and redeemed by God from death to life by the precious blood of His Son can no longer live the same way regardless of one's stage in life. In each chapter, Crowe highlights a specific arena in life such as our community, habits, and relationships that need to be transformed in light of our blood-bought status in Christ. For example, in Chapter 8, Crowe discusses how our relationships with parents, siblings, and friends are no longer self-focused and self-serving but should instead be marked with humility and love for the other party. Even our relationships with the opposite gender is to be characterized by purity, respect, and honour. At the end of each chapter, there are dozens of practical suggestions that readers can try as they begin the process of submitting every thought, word, and deed to bring glory to God.
I would gladly recommend this book to young Christians looking for ways to genuinely live out their faith in all spheres of life. Although meant for a younger audience, the book's challenge to live in a disciplined, Christ-centered way is applicable and necessary for all those who follow Jesus. As a young adult, Crowe's honesty about her own struggles in following Christ faithfully makes the book relevant and attractive to teenaged Christians who face similar challenges. Instead of wasting those precious years of youth, now is the time for young Christians to take their walk with God seriously and develop godly habits to carry over into their adult lives. Even for those beyond their teen years, it is not too late to begin living abundant, gospel-driven lives as God always provides grace and mercy to those who seek Him. May we consecrate every moment of our lives to bring God all the glory that belongs to Him alone.

No, she is not perfect, as she reminds her readers again and again by recounting her own hard-learned lessons, stories of insecurity and heartfelt pain. Yet her words will remind people of all ages around the world that the one who is perfect, Jesus the Christ, is still there with them, and that his forgiveness is absolute and eternal.
After reading this book, I felt encouraged: being a Christian teen is really hard. We need support from family; family at home and family at church. Knowing that others struggle too and learning ways to get that support is uplifting. The book is full of challenges, clarifying what one can do to follow God and love him and his word more, despite sin and the pressures of popular culture.
Jaquelle is sharing some amazing news for whoever will listen! Her passion for Jesus is inspiring. Using the Sword of the Spirit, or the Bible, as her biggest tool, as well as profound questions, she builds up and instructs her readers.
