Tell us a little about yourself. I live in Raleigh NC, born in Lexington KY. I am an actor/writer, and director/producer. I have a production company and artist education and resource venue in Raleigh NC called Moonlight Stage Company.
What was your motivation behind this project? I suffered a lot of clinical depression in my late teens and 20s. As I have been healthy for about 15 years it was time to reflect and use that experience in my art.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I wanted to make a positive film that entertains and educates the audience about the issues and stigmas that accompany mental illness. So I really hope it inspires all about overcoming tragedy as well as inspires those who are battling mental health issues and those helping others with mental health issues.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This was my first feature film. So as a filmmaker I learned so so much. But I also really learned about how many people connect and are dealing with mental health issues. I work with a lot of youth so making a project with youth, and teens was an incredible learning and growth experience. And getting to see my students do professional work was also very impacting.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Robert Redford, Joan Darling, Matt Damon, Uta Hagen. Ed Burns. Quentin Tarantino.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Depression, mental health issues are real and often stress related. Listen to those and have patience with those undergoing these illnesses. Also if you are in a rough patch or tragedy has impacted your life. Hang in there one day at a time and seek help from someone you trust.
