nkwbookreviewer4 Stars Out Of 5Three Christian Contemporary Romance StoriesAugust 31, 2016nkwbookreviewerQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4"Chance of Loving You" is a compilation of three novellas by Tyndale Publisher. It is 384 pages of three contemporary Christian romance stories with a common theme of love and winning. Three modern day women each win a contest and also have a chance at romance. All are inspirational and have a good message.
Story one is by author Terri Blackstock entitled "For Love or Money" and is a about a waitress, her customer, and a sweepstakes ticket. It had great characters, a well thought plot, smooth dialogue and was hard to put down.
Story two by author Candace Calver is "The Recipe". This is the first thing I have read by author Calvert and I really enjoyed it. Her story had some twists, bumps, and great characters. It involves a cooking contest and a family recipe. This was my favorite of the three.
Story three is penned by author Susan May Warren. "Hook, Line, and Sinker" is about Deep Haven's annual fishing contest. Author Warren does a delightful job with this tale.
Her characters are lovable. The plot is unique and the writing style great.
"Chance of Loving You" is a delightful book that anyone who enjoys inspirational romance should pick up. All three stories were very good from wonderful authors. I would definitely recommend it. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars. A copy of this book was provided by the Book Club Network for my honest review.
Kav5 Stars Out Of 5Great novella collectionJuly 28, 2016KavQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My heart got all skittery over this talented trio of authors. Together. In one book. Insert bibliophile swoon. How could I resist? Well, obviously I couldn't. I started reading the second the mailman popped it in my mail box. Three snappy, swoony and scrumptious romances sent me into a whirl of reader bliss.
For Love of Money by Terri Blackstock -- Oh my goodness, what a great premise for a love story. But argh...the angst. I could totally relate to Julie and her reactions. My tummy flip-flopped and I came near to hyperventilating a time or two. A whimsical love story that will leave you grinning.
The Recipe by Candace Calvert -- Funny and sweet and touching. It fits in with the Crisis Team series but you don't need to have read the books in order to enjoy this novella. Aimee's still trying to find her passion in a family of decisive over achievers. A great faith thread about following God's leading...and surprise, when Aimee does she finds her heart's desire!
Hook, Line & Sinker by Susan May Warren -- A gnarly second chance love story. And mercy, but I wanted to grab this hero and heroine by the scruffs of their necks and shake some sense into them. And then lock them in a closet until they kissed and made up. :-) The author had other plans though and I rabidly devoured this twisty-turny romance until I reached the end and could let out a great sigh of relief.
jacquiRIllinoisAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Chance of Loving YouApril 24, 2016jacquiRIllinoisAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Chance of Loving You is a romance collection by three outstanding authors: Terri Blackstock, Candace Calvert, and Susan May Warren. Each story is engaging and easy to read. Each of the stories deals with the risks taken for love.
Blackstocks For Love of Money focuses on two people whose business success dreams have been put on hold. Waitress Julie Sheffield, who dreams of launching her fashion design company, has been cheated out of recognition by a man that she trusted which has left her wary and overly cautious. Blake Adcock, a former engineer at GM, who had a contract deal with a business friend, finds that his friend has made bad financial decisions and his business dreams have collapsed. However, his business friend as a gesture of good faith passes a sweepstakes ticket to him, hoping that it will be of some benefit. Not having enough cash to pay his restaurant bill and a tip to the waitress who has shown him immense compassion, Blake leaves her half of the sweepstakes ticketall that he has. Will this Valentines Sweepstakes be the answer to their prayers?
Calverts The Recipe centers around a CSI photographer who is very devoted to his grandmother who is in the hospital. She has given up on life and eats and drinks very little. His path crosses with hospital dietary assistant, Aimee Curran, who has had some detours on her career journey. She wants to enter a Vegan Valentine Bake-Off that would grant her paid tuition to the culinary institute, if she would win. Their interest in each other develops as they focus on the life and well-being of his grandmother.
Warrens Hook, Line & Sinker relates the story of grad student Abigail Cushman and undergrad student, Ross Springer. Rosss older brother, Scotty, and Abigail had been friends for years. Ross was always in the background, teasing and supporting Abigails activities. Then Scottys accident ends his life, and Abigail and Ross become estranged through misunderstandings and hurt. A fishing competition between their two campus Christian groups presents an opportunity for change and a chance for love.
All three romances are very entertaining and uplifting. Other supporting characters amuse and enhance the stories. I highly recommend this collection. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.
AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Taking a chance on love times threeApril 20, 2016AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Chance of Loving You is a collection of romance novellas by three popular authors, Terri Blackstock, Candace Calvert and Susan May Warren. Each of the three stories was a quick, fun read. In Terri Blackstock's For Love of Money, a sweepstake ticket brings a couple together or does it? Does money change people? Will Julie and Blake have a chance or will money be a deterrent to their relationship?
The Recipe by Candace Calvert is a delightful novella that draws the reader in immediately. Aimee and Lucas are dancing around romance as she is trying to win a Bake-off contest. It is a story of faith and recognition that one's dreams may change and that sometimes one needs to see with one's heart to take a chance at love. A sweet tale that reminds the reader God has a hand in one's life.
The third book in the compilation is Hook, Line & Sinker by Susan May Warren and is another somewhat sweet, somewhat sassy, unacknowledged romance between two childhood friends. A fishing contest reveals the need for forgiveness and learning self-worth. Will Abby and Ross be able to see past their shared grief and take a chance at love?
All-in-all the book is a light-hearted book with Christian themes. And to sweeten the pot a little more, there is a recipe included at the end of each novella.

Cindy J4 Stars Out Of 5Novella collection by three popular authorsApril 1, 2016Cindy JQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Terri Blackstock pens a winner titled For Love of Money. Blake Adcock spends a rainy Valentines Day sitting in a restaurant in the section Julie Sheffield is waitressing. Blake doesnt have enough money for Julies tip, so he leaves an IOU written on half of a sweepstakes ticket with the drawing to be held the next day. Their ticket is the winning ticket.
Ms. Blackstock packed a lot into a short 138-page novella. During the first part of the story, I felt it was a bit unrealistic and overblown, and I didnt really like Blake. I was tempted to stop reading. But if I had, I would have missed some very thought-provoking messages in this story. What would I do with a large windfall of money? How would my life and attitudes change? Would my spending habits and philosophies change? I was very impressed with how the story wrapped up, and Im glad I finished the story instead of just skipping ahead to the next novella.
Candace Calvert stirs up love in The Recipe. Aimee Curran works in the hospital dietary department but dreams of enrolling in a culinary institute. Utilizing a recipe she inherited from her mother, she hopes to win a bake-off competition with the prize of full tuition to the institute. Lucas Marchal visits his grandmother daily at the hospital, trying to coax her to eat so she can regain her health. Following an unfortunate accident with another hospital worker, Aimee volunteers an hour each evening to relieve the other worker in aiding hospital patients with their meals.
This is a fun story with gentle reminders to look beneath the surface others present to the world and find the value within. Also, health isnt just about the physical condition, it also encompasses a persons emotional and mental state.
Susan May Warren reels us in with Hook, Line & Sinker. Abigail Cushman and Scotty Springer were fellow classmates and friends. Over the years, Abby hung out at Scottys house with him and his younger brother Ross. Now Ross is a college senior in danger of failing class, Abby is a graduate student noted as an all-brains-no-fun girl, and Scotty is dead. Both Abby and Ross are active in college campus ministry clubs, so when an opportunity to raise funds is announced, they both sign up. Unfortunately for Abby, it is a fishing contest and she knows nothing about fishing.
This short tale of missed opportunities and resulting regrets will leave you pondering. What could I have done differently? Is this information accurate, or is it just someones opinion or assumption? Its also a great reminder that life is short so you should make the most of the time you have.
Chance of Loving You is an enjoyable collection of sweet, romantic, short stories. Each short story is followed by a delicious-looking recipe. Try this book (and the recipes)!
