Publisher's Description

If you long for rest... Many of us long for rest, as the author did while renovating an old house after her husband's first deployment to Iraq. Yet a different hunger undergirded that desire: a hunger for wholeness. No fast track exists to a closer walk with God, but Gail Kittleson demonstrates how to use the ancient Benedictine practice of Lectio Divina to enhance and extend our times with our Creator. Allowing the Spirit to emph-asize one word and ruminating on it throughout the day empowers us to remain present for every moment, attentive to embrace all that God has for us. Through stories and guided musing, you will become aware of those who have paved our way...and those around us in need of fresh courage. And you may even awaken one morning to discover the moon painted a fresh hue. Come...Rest...Catch up with Him.

Gail Kittleson is an Army chaplain/pastor's wife with a new-old home. As she removes the old paint, varnish, wallpaper, and carpet (not to mention dust and grime) in order to renovate this decades-old treasure, she also seeks to remove the decades-old shame and pain in her own life. She finds that spending time on one's knees, even in the house-renovation activities, can also lead to uncovering and healing the past.

I loved one quote from this book especially: "We failed to take into account the loneliness of this 125-year-old abode. Her parched bones slurped up coats and coats of primer and paint, her floorboards soaked in stain, oil, and varnish, yet cried out for more." She relates the similarities between the hungriness in her life to that of this old house.

My recommendation for reading this book would be that you read a section a day, a little like you would a devotional. Each short section has enough meat to chew on for a time.

She has recorded her journey in this collection of inspirational memoirs. Well worth the read, folks.

Catching Up With Daylight--a journey to wholeness by Gail Kittleson is a gorgeous tapestry of non-fictional thoughts. This very gifted author knows how to weave her thoughts, memories, and the history of the old house she is refurbishing into a journey of emotional and spiritual wholeness.

You could read a section each day and be satiated, because each piece is full to the brim with the sweet and painful honesty of sad memories and the wisdom gleaned from a painful past.

Or a person could sit down and read this non-fictional book in larger chunks, and be satiated by the sweep of the journey. But I guarantee, if you do that, you will return to pages to savor the thoughts, and the author's flair in juxtaposing words on the page, so that one thinks not only of a tapestry, but of a mosaic.

I highly recommend this lovely piece of literature by an author who truly knows how to weld a pen and paint with the English language. I also recommend this book to those who have been hurt, and desire to find healing in a gentle manner. You will be inspired.
