Publisher's Description

Fifteen-year-old Naomi wants to practice her faith in public, find her uncle, and help him raise enough money to bring their family to America. To accomplish this she agrees to companion a blind, old woman whose family plans to tour Europe and settle in the United States. Her plans are thwarted when the woman passes away aboard ship, and Naomi is handed over to immigration. While she awaits her interview, an old Tia comes to Naomi's rescue and offers to take her in. With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, Naomi agrees and unwittingly enters the country illegally.

This is Naomi's journey from adolescence to womanhood, from frightened isolation and captivity to the noble status of heiress with a mission and responsibility many would shirk placed upon her shoulders. Along the way, she contends with piercing memories, hurtful loss, jealous opponents, a devious lawyer, and a curious priest. Through each step of this journey, she guards two secrets she dare not share with anyone, not even Chaz, the man she has married. Will she keep his love when he discovers who she really is? Find out in the first book of Paula Rose Michelson's saga, The House of Blessing.

Paula Rose Michelson's debut novel, Casa de Naomi delves into the seldom-discussed world of anti-Semitism. Circa 1950s, a young Jewish woman emigrates from Spain to the US. Despite the barriers set for Jewish immigrants, and through a series of divinely guided challenges, Naomi arrives on the doorstep of Tia, the owner and director of The House of Blessing, a home for young women fresh from Ellis Island with no sponsor.

Set in New York's Spanish Harlem, Michelson takes the reader into a rich, detailed story of hidden identities and altruism. The protagonist is Naomi Baruh who is essentially drafted to assume the role of the new Tia for The House of Blessing. Hidden away for such as time as this, Naomi is thrust more into the limelight—which reveals more about her than what she thinks she can handle. Especially when she marries Chaz.

With complex plots and subplots, Casa moves the reader through the pages quickly. Looking forward to book two of the series to learn what will happen with all these characters.

I received a complimentary copy from the author in return for my honest review.

It is not often you get invited into someone's life and home and get to listen to all as their secrets and watch as their life unfolds before you. "Casa de Naomi" isn't just a book it is someone allowing you to move in with them and live closely with them. That is how real Ms. Michelson has made her characters, events and situations. Naomi is a real person, Chaz is a real person. Each of them has thoughts and feelings that are unsaid due to the fact that Naomi has secrets, secrets that she keeps even from Chaz. Secrets that threaten to destroy them. This is a magnificent story and it is just the beginning of the series. This is a story of religious intolerance and antisemitism. This is a story of how responsibility and family. And this is a romance. "Casa de Naomi" is a lot of fun. You will want time to sit and enjoy your reading this book. You will not want to be hurried. It is that good! I liked this book and recommend it highly!

Naomi practiced her Jewish faith with a sincere heart. The only problem was she could not do it in public. She left her family in Spain for America so she could live her faith without ridicule in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Naomi's plan was to find her Uncle in hopes of helping him earn money to bring her family to America.

What a journey Naomi travels. She has many hidden secrets. She has to be very careful not to be caught practicing her Jewish faith. If she were caught, she would be sent back to immigration. Because of this, she lives an isolated life. Naomi loves her God and loves her Tia that took her in. Naomi's agreement with her Tia is to stay and work off her debt. Her plans are to leave as soon as she fulfills that agreement. Her heart's desire is to find her Uncle and work toward bringing her family to America. Oh how she misses her family.

As the story unravels, unseen things happen in Naomi's life. Will she survive the people who are out to hurt her and the one who finally betrays her? Will Chaz the husband she married forgive her for the secrets she kept from him?

This is a book that you can't put down. The story draws you in and it seems as though you are walking in Naomi's shoes. I found myself so engrossed in this book. My emotions were all over the place.

I am rooting for Chaz and Naomi. Will their love be enough to save their marriage? I hope to find out in book two of The House of Blessing!

My thanks to the author Paula Rose Michelson for such a captivating story line. I actually learned a lot about the Jewish faith while reading this book. Thank you Paula for sending me a copy of this book to read and review. The opinions expressed are mine alone.

"I have read Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing and am rereading it. I never reread a book after the last world is read. I what to thank you so much for sending me your book, I cried, hoped, and prayed for Naomi and Chaz. How can so many people love her, and act like they did after Lola does what she did? I felt like I was living at casa. I didn't want the story to end! Is Naomi coming back? Is Chaz going to forgive Naomi for not telling him who she is? And what about Lola_Is she going to be sent back or is she going to stay in America?" Sissie Prater
