Product Description

For the Minneapolis ten-year-old, friendship with a Jewish immigrant family is perfectly normal. So why are many of her other friends uptight about that? Sadly, bigotry is a powerful force in society--so much so that the white-robed members of the Ku Klux Klan plot violence against her new friend.

Will Carrie be able to protect her friend from both the verbal attacks of other girls and the physical threats of the Klan? Can Carrie continue to stand for what's right, when what's popular would be so much easier?

Let the Sister's In Time series take you back to 1923--where you may find that Carrie Ruhle isn't that much different than you! Recommended for ages 8 to 12.

This story is based on (and very similar to) Battling the Klan from the American Adventure Series.

Publisher's Description

Time Period:  1923  For ten-year-old Carrie Moe, friendship with a Jewish immigrant is perfectly normal. So why are many of her other friends uptight about that? Sadly, in 1924, bigotry is a powerful force in society-so much so, that the white-robed members of the Ku Klux Klan plot violence against Jews. Carrie's Courage is the story of a young girl who stands up for a friend in the face of persecution. Using actual historical events as a backdrop, this young readers' novel shows that standing up for others, though not always popular, is always right. It's a perfect teaching tool, at an even better price!
