A practical book for those caring for a loved one battling cancer. Traces the journey from the first doctor visit through cancer treatments and healing.
JUNE HUNT is founder of Hope for the Heart, a worldwide biblical counseling ministry, and hosts the award-winning radio program by the same name. Her numerous books include Seeing Yourself Through Gods Eyes, Healing the Hurting Heart, Bonding with Your Teen through Boundaries, and Hope for Your Heart.
Hunt provides an especially useful chapter on confronting your sick friends about their spiritual beliefs and starting them on the path to salvation. She also includes technical explanations of what causes cancer, how it affects the body, and how to take care of yourself if you have cancer. The second part of the book need not be separated from the first part; it all blends together well. Chapters range from one to two pages long, making for a quick and easy read. Much of the book reads as a narrative of Hunts own journey, which will make the book more interesting to those who may not be dealing with cancer or caring for someone with cancer.
Several of the chapters include Scripture passages that encourage the cancer patient "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand" (Isaiah 41:10), and admonish friends of cancer patients to "encourage one another daily" (Hebrews 3:13).
While many of the tips in the book may seem obvious, Caring for a Loved One with Cancer serves as an encouraging reminder of just how important true friendship is in the midst of trials and heartache. Anyone dealing with cancer or with the fact that a loved one has cancer will benefit from reading Hunts words. Harmony Wheeler, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
