A caregiver is a friend, neighbor, or family member who helps meet the special needs of otherswithout pay and often at great personal cost to their own career, finances, social life, and mental health. Hope for the Caregiver is a carefully crafted selection of devotions that reminds these givers that in their own moments of fatigue and discouragement God is present, providing a special measure of hope and strength to those who give so much to others. In addition to the devotions, there are short articles and tips to help caregivers maintain their own well-being. Foreword is by Ken Tada.
Peter W. Rosenberger is the president of standing With Hope, a non-profit prosthetic limb outreach founded by Peter and his wife, Gracie. He has an extensive media, speaking, and writing history where he covers such issues as chronic pain, caregiving, disability, and gods provision in suffering. Whether in writings, live appearances, or his weekly radio show, Peter combines a well-honed sense of humor with practical tips to those buckling under the strain of caring for a loved one. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where he has been the primary caregiver for Gracie, a double amputee, for nearly 30 years

Empowered by taking care of his wife, Peter Rosenberger shares what he has learned through the many care-giving years. Through quotes, Bible verses, personal stories and encouragement, Hope For The Caregiver offers caregivers (past, present and future) just what they need mostthe motivation and power to continue, even during emotional turmoil, doubt, exhaustion and isolation. With a myriad of ideas from taking a vacation, attending church, enjoying laughter, finding support and a firm faith, care-giving can mean so much more
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Speaking from experience adds credence to this author, making Hope For The Caregiver even more dynamic. Written as a devotional-type book, it would be perfect as a gift for every caregiver. Being a bit smaller in size would even allow it be portable. I found the thoughts, ideas and reflections to be full of faith and so encouraging. The Caregivers Prayer found at the front of the book repeats again at the end of book which had a greater impact on me due to my experience of reading the book. Many people will care for someone in their lives; this book helps to offer comfort and confidence in doing so while assuring that feelings experienced are normal. Most importantly, I learned how necessary it is to keep the person separate from the pain/ condition/ disease and that God has a plan for us all.

I read it... will read it again... and am buying copies as gifts for friends. It's a quick read the first time through, but you'll want to underline nuggets of encouragement for going back and rereading later. I first learned about Peter Rosenberger when I heard his radio show, and I appreciate his upbeat, realistic advice. This book would make a great gift for someone you know who is a caregiver to a friend or family member.
