Tell us a little about yourself. I am a teacher who works in Vancouver BC and live with my three children in the city of Coquitlam, BC, Canada. I have served in children's ministry at my church, Coquitlam Alliance since 2005. I have a website good4ubooks.com that you can see my picture as well.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have been presenting the message of salvation for the past 12 years. We are called to tell the good news of salvation however over the years I have discovered that many adults do not know how to lead other people in the prayer of salvation. Many people already think they have been saved according to their opinion based on what the world says. This book is how I have been presenting the salvation message bringing on average over 100 people to Christ a year. I believe that presenting this salvation message in a book format will reach a greater amount of people than I can personally meet by being the presenter. I believe there is a desperate need for a children's book that delivers the message of salvation. There are lots of books about Christmas and the first Easter and Bible stories but where are the salvation stories with the invitation of the prayer of salvation right in the story? I believe we are in end times. We are called to present the message of salvation. People need to be equipped to do this. This should be our first priority as followers of Christ. I believe reading this book aloud with a loved one or presenting it as a gift fulfills the go and tell mandate in Mark 16:15.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that parents, grandparents, relatives, children and all people interested in knowing how to get to heaven will be able to read this book. I hope that each reader will accept the invitation and pray the prayer of salvation included right in the story and pray out loud with their loved ones and get saved.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I self published this book using my own funds and marketed this book using my own funds. I know that what ever is given to the Lord He will bless. I have a ten free book giveaway currently running on Goodreads that has grown to 190 requests since Friday. When I look at the pictures of the people who have ordered books I see them with such gratitude that they would consider wanting to have my book and most importantly that they want to hear and share about how to get to heaven.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? When I first started working in children's ministry the children's director, Joy, had asked for us to offer the prayer of salvation to our groups. I had a group of 18 children who all wanted to make Jesus their forever friend. I felt very unprepared to offer the prayer. However, I offered it and 13 children accepted (5 already had). Then, I watched Joyce Meyer offer the prayer of salvation and I wrote it down word for word and then memorized it and I still to this day use the format she uses. I next went to a homeless shelter to present backpacks of school supplies to 30 children. The elders at the church asked the children's director to ask me for a Bible verse that the Lord asked me to use. I didn't know what to do so I just opened my Bible and looked up "Ask and it shall be answered. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened unto you." I closed the Bible and opened it again to the exact same verse so I happily told the director what to tell the elders. I told her it was perfect. They wanted school supplies and we wanted to do ministry to give those things to them. They were asking and seeking and knocking and we were answering. She said the Bible verse actually meant that I was called to bring the message of salvation to them. So we went and gave the kids the backpacks of school supplies and I presented the message of salvation to them. All 30 accepted. I walked outside of the room into the hall where the 60 homeless people were waiting. The director told me that she had been asked repeatedly by them what I was doing in the room with the children. She felt that I was being asked to deliver the message to them as well and I did . They all said it and were joyous. As we sat down to eat dinner in the soup kitchen many of them said they had never heard the message of salvation before or had said the prayer before. I have been saying this prayer of salvation at children's and VBS events every year since.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I think it would be interesting for the readers to know that the format of this book was actually divinely given to me when I was completely broken. I was preparing to lead 150 people to Christ for the next day at a VBS event as I ran the salvation station. That evening as I was preparing, I discovered devastating news that my husband was having multiple affairs. I called the Children's director explaining what had happened and how upset I was. She told me she would cover for me but I knew what had happened had been delivered by the enemy. So I prayed to the Lord and I told Him that I would serve Him by presenting His message the next day but that I was broken and weak and that He would need to give me the message Himself. He then downloaded the entire format of the book and I used animal puppets to deliver the story. I have had pastors and adults tell me that this presentation of the message of salvation is so well told and the Bible verses are perfect. There is absolutely no way I could have come up with the simple yet succinct message that can be as easily understood by a three year old or by one who is over one hundred years old.
