▼▲Can science explain everything?
Many people think so. Science, and the technologies it has spawned, has delivered so much to the world: clean water; more food; better healthcare; longer life. And we live in a time of rapid scientific progress that holds enormous promise for many of the problems we face as humankind. So much so, in fact, that many see no need or use for religion and belief systems that offer us answers to the mysteries of our universe. Science has explained it, they assume. Science and religion just do not mix.
Oxford Maths Professor and Christian believer Prof. John Lennox offers a fresh way of thinking about science and Christianity that dispels the common misconceptions about both. He reveals that not only are they not opposed, but they can and must mix to give us a fuller understanding of the universe and the meaning of our existence.

Editorial Reviews
▼▲“I am delighted that my colleague and friend John Lennox has invested time to offer a wonderfully readable summary of his work in science. Here he offers each of us what his parents gave him as a young lad growing up in Northern Ireland: the welcomed space to think for ourselves and the tools to dig deeper into questions of science and faith. I have learned so much from Professor Lennox over the years as I’ve watched him interact with critics and skeptics with grace and boldness. I believe you will find this book immensely helpful and enjoyable.”
Ravi Zacharias author and speaker
“With the delightfulness and wit of an Irishman, and the airtight logic of his mathematical mind, Lennox graciously whittles away at long-held controversies between science and God or science and the Bible. Using his remarkably rational thought process, Lennox gently dissects materialism and the arguments of its proponents in this delightful easy-to-read treatise. The presuppositions of science are left pondering in the face of this battle-hardened sage who is a stalwart follower of Jesus Christ.”
Professor James M Tour Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering, Rice University, USA
“I picked up a book to read about science and was given a thorough presentation of the gospel instead. That is not to say that John Lennox did not provide a very thorough discussion of science. He did. Very effectively. His true gift is in his ability to craft a story that was both inspired language with gifted writing to present two seemingly contradictory ideas in a very logical, methodical, yet palatable writing style. Both Christian and non-Christian, scientist and non-scientist, and everyone in between, would benefit tremendously from reading this book.”
Jeany Kim Jun Assistant Professor at Keck Graduate Institute School of Pharmacy
“An easy read about a difficult issue. Simple without being simplistic, Lennox’s book is a clear, understandable entry point for anyone interested in a controversial field that is often filled with technical phrasing and obscurantism. In this highly accessible volume, Lennox skillfully expounds the rationality of Christian belief given the evidence from science.”
Dr. Ransom H. Poythress Assistant Professor of Biology, Houghton College, NY
Editorial Reviews
▼▲John Lennox is the ideal guide for those who wish to examine the relationship between science and religion. He himself combines a brilliant scientific mind with a strong Christian faith and is a superb communicator. This book is a remarkable achievement: engaging with all the big issues in just a few pages, while remaining profound, accessible, engaging and, to my mind, completely compelling. -- Vaughan Roberts (Rector, St Ebbes Church, Oxford)
Of course the answer to the question is no! but this fresh look will engage the most ardent of protagonists. Professor Lennox brings the logic of the mathematician to show that science and religion do not belong to a war zone as some would have us believe. His highly accessible account is interlaced with colourful humour and personal experiences that relate to the excitement of rational, sensible and wholesome insights from the best attested manuscripts of the ancient world. Myths are dispatched; miracles, evil and suffering are confronted; the Standard Model of physics, the Big Bang and the open Universe are richly explored, and much more. Finally, case studies tell what can happen upon entering the laboratory where truths are tested, but beware, particularly if you are coming from some sceptical distance, its a book that could make a difference in worldviews and even lives. -- Brian Heap (Distinguished Fellow, Centre of Development Studies, and former Master, St Edmunds College, Cambridge)

John Lennox is more qualified than anyone to dispel the myths and assertions that continue to surround the God and science debate. Here, John has written a thoughtful and persuasive introduction to the debate that will be of interest to Christians, skeptics and anyone in-between. It's the kind of book that if you're a Christian you won't feel ashamed to give to a skeptical friend. -- Daniel Rodger (Lecturer in Perioperative Practice, London South Bank University and moderator of the UK Apologetics and evangelism forum)
You don't have to be either a scientist or a christian to value this book. John Lennox writes with a simplicity that allows the non-scientist to follow but takes you into the presence and thoughts of some of the science greats as he writes persuasively to defend God's place in the scientific world. An important introduction for anyone wrestling with the issues of science and faith. -- Hugh Palmer (Former Rector of All Souls Langham Place, London)
'Can Science Explain Everything?' is an excellent introduction to the relationship between science and faith: it's short, accessible, and written with the skeptic in mind. -- UCCF Team
Such is the extent to which Professor John Lennox turns the science and faith debate on its head in his book Can Science Explain Everything? In just 125 pages he thoroughly debunks the popular misconception that science and religion are necessarily at war with each other, showing that science in fact sits much more comfortably within the Christian worldview than in atheism. -- Emma Nicholls
-- Chris Reese
Many people today think that science has disproved the existence of God and made the claims of the Bible irrelevant. However they may have never seriously considered the evidence for either of these beliefs. This excellent book starts by explaining why these are important questions and then goes on to demonstrate that science and Christianity are fully compatible. It also explains why in our scientifically oriented world, the Bible can be, and should be, taken seriously. Similar material has been covered in previous books, including John Lennoxs own book, God's Undertaker. However this book is easier to follow and is aimed at a broader audience. It will be particularly helpful for Christians who have never thought about the relationship between science and their faith, and for non-Christians seriously considering the claims of Christianity. I found it very helpful and strongly recommend it. -- J V Priestley (Emeritus Professor of Brain Research at St Mary's University, London)
It is a commonly held view that science and Christianity are mutually incompatible. John Lennox clearly explains and illustrates how Christians hold the exact opposite view. Science and Christianity are not only compatible but can support the same world view and beliefs. This accessible and very readable book is a great introduction to this hotly debated topic. It tackles head-on issues such as the role of God in creation in the light of scientific evidence, the role of faith in science and religion, the truth of the Bible, the compatibility of human reason with Christian belief and our personal relationship with God in a world of scientific scepticism. -- Simon Watts (Visiting Professor in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London, UK)
Written with expected clarity, we have here an overview of the relationship between science and Christianity and how well they fit together; but more than that, this little book is also a window into what it is for a fine mind to live in relationship with God. -- Kirsten Birkett (author and lecturer in Pastoral Counselling and Youth and Children's Ministry at Oak Hill College)
John Lennox is a brilliant teacher and story-teller. In Can Science Explain Everything he brings refreshing clarity to important questions which too often are muddled and confusingly complex. The strengths of his arguments are clearly based on decades of intellectual curiosity, breathtakingly wide reading and countless conversations with people holding starkly different opinions. But the book never gets overcomplicated and Lennoxs very personal illustrations and stories make clear why the questions matter so much. -- Christian Hofreiter (Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics)
Clear, fresh and brilliantly simple, John Lennox answers questions, dispels myths, and clarifies controversies like the seasoned master of the subject that he isand all in an admirably irenic style. I highly recommend 'Can Science Explain Everything?'" -- Os Guinness (author of "The Call")
John Lennoxs new book gives a thought-provoking, engaging, and wide-ranging discussion of the relationship between Science and Christianity. He looks at writings and sayings of prominent scientists, from Newton to Hawking, about religion, the universe, God and creation, and discusses the role of faith and rational argument in both religion and science. I highly recommend the book as an engaging and challenging read. -- Cheryl Praeger (Professor of Mathematics, University of Western Australia)
John Lennox has become a global phenomenon. Huge numbers attend his lectures and debates in universities around the world. Writing for sceptics and for all honest seekers after truth, Lennox explores here the apparent conflict between science and faith with his typical penetrating insights. Highly readable. I think this short book is brilliant. -- Peter May (Medical Doctor and former chairman of the UCCF Trust Board)

Simple without being simplistic, Lennoxs book is a clear, understandable entry point for anyone interested in a controversial field that is often filled with technical phrasing and obscurantism.
