If you are a caregiver or have parents that are struggling with dementia, I highly recommend "When Camels Slide Down Doors." Aging causes us to lose many things, like teeth, sight, hearing, etc. However, the costliest by far is our memory. This work by Rick & Martha Trader is a rich source of inspiration and encouragement. Their role as caregivers over a seven-year journey will become your manual and friend. Their sense of humor and solid faith in God will show you how to overcome barriers without losing heart. You will find yourself growing spiritually in the process of caring for your loved ones. This is a unique book that will change the way you view the challenges life presents.

The title of the book, will grab your attention, but reading the book will grab your heart. Rack & Martha Trader's seven-year "journey" with both of Martha's parents suffering from dementia is one that gives the reader an inside view of what it means to be a servant. The authors give incredible insights into how they learned invaluable lessons from the greatest of all servants, Jesus Christ. The lessons are those that will help equip each of us through life's "journeys."

All through the book the authors describe humorous happenings that occurred in their "journey." Each time they relate something that helped them keep their sense of humor, it was "couched in respect and honor. There is never a hint of disrespect or scorn.

In this day-and-age, many people have had first-hand experience with a family member who has dementia, or they know of someone who is going through something similar. I feel this book is a must-read for two reasons. First, it brings dementia out of the darkness of misunderstanding, and has shown me there are ways to be victorious in the midst of it. Second, the book gave me a unique understanding for those who are caregivers, and gave insights into ways I can give help and/or understanding.

This book is a fun read, as well as a great resource.
