Calvert Learning's elementary curriculum helps to develop children's natural curiosity and encourages kids to dive into favorite subject areas not because they have to, but because they're passionate about learning!
The Calvert Grade 2 curriculum is comprised of a teacher's guide and ten student workbooks for each subject. Each full-color student workbook features 3-5 sections, self-test sections, and a final unit test. The teacher's guides include a list of materials needed, instruction on teaching the lesson, alternative tests, and answer keys. Student worksheets are also integrated throughout as needed.
The History & Geography program begins with a review of the previous year before introducing units the early events in America (Jamestown, Pilgrims, early Colonies and Revolutionary War), the American system of government & branches of government, local & state governments, our role as citizens, understanding different types of maps, and American history through Westward Expansion.
The Science program covers living and non-living beings, plants, animals, people, pet and plant care, the five sense, physical properties, neighborhoods, changes in the world (such as seasons and landscapes) and looking at the world (including how to care for objects, caring for ourselves and our environment, and living things that need care).
The Math program covers numbers and words to 999, adding and subtracting, even/odd, carrying to the hundreds place, subtraction with borrowing, volume and coin conversion, area and square measurement, and more.
The Language Arts program covers nouns, action verbs, simple sentences, types of sentences, punctuation, adjectives, possessive nouns, pronouns, verb types, and tenses.
