Product Description

What is Christ's calling to you? You may be seeking an answer: you may be avoiding the question, but when the Lord calls he will be answered. God's call came suddenly to Elisha when he was plowing the field when Elijah cast the prophets mantle on him. It is clear that the answer must come from God himself. Self Esteem and popular acclaim are treacherous indicators. Christ's spoken word no longer sounds by the lake of Galilee, but he has not left his disciples without direction. We have his written word in the Bible.

    It's ok

Maybe my hopes were a bit too high going in. I really don't have much to say, other than "it's ok". I did appreciate that he spent time talking about the calling to be a Christian, and not just to "the" ministry.

I found the writer's thought processes very engaging! It took a friend of mine and myself over six months to plumb the depths of this short book. In essence, Clowney describes the high calling every Christian is called to. His strong stand is derived from scripture, and he comes across as concerned and caring, not rigid and directive. A must for all who feel they may be called to the gospel ministry, in my opinion.

I purchased this title hoping to find a book to give to young men contemplating God's call to pastoral ministry. I was disappointed in what I found. The author does not present clear lines of thought, and tends to ramble in places where a brief summary would be more in order. The book is clearly dated with an overly "clerical" tone that would be unfamiliar to a person considering ministry. The use of the King James Version for Scriptural references would also be a distraction for younger readers.Still, there are some good points scattered throughout the book that make it worth the reading for an older minister working with ministerial candidates. For the candidates themselves, however, an easier-to-read, more modern presentation would be much more useful. My search for a small book providing a helpful summary for God's call to ministry continues.
