Tell us a little about yourself. Ex-Pastor, Christian Men's Leader and Management Consultant specializing in Executive Leadership Development. Married with five sons and I love being on and under the sea
What was your motivation behind this project? Men are in search of their Mojo. We saw 180 men transformed and mobilized in our church around the story of Gideon and his journey from fearful farmer to Mighty Warrior. I was challenged to tell it in a mens book. The Divine processes revealed in Called to War change and lift the reader and now it has spread into became a movement reaching 1000's of men and pastors in over 10 nations.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Men recover (or find for the first time) their Courage to discern, stand in God's armor, to lock shields with other men. speak boldly and lovingly, to serve their families, and to win their own spiritual battles. Finally it calls them to be a leader so they can help other men do the same.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? It took me into the darkness as spiritual warfare raged against me and my family. It also produced resolve to press through in courage to finish and them publish the book and audiobook. I have written several other books and know beforehand they will be finished!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I love John Eldredge (Wild at Heart, Waking the Dead) and Ken Follet (Pillars series), John Maxwell (5 Levels of Leadership) and Paul Billheimer (Destined for the Throne). My philosophy and theology of Warfare came from my mentor, Jack Hayford. My wise counselor and unconditional lover is sharon, my wife and best friend.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The book Called to War is also the textbook for the first year of discipleship boot camp curricula for men called " The Warrior" by Core 300. The second year is the priest and the third is "The King". Each is 18 weeks of group study for men, growing together. See core300.org. I am currently working on a three part series right now on the life and ways of Constantine the Great, It is a historical fiction based on fact, about the forth or fifth most influential person in world history.
