Publisher's Description

After months of investigating the brutal homicide of a young girl, Detective Abby Hart finally has the evidence she needs. But when the arrest goes terribly wrong, Abby begins to doubt her future as a police officer. As she wrestles with conflicting emotions, old questions about the fire that took her parents’ lives come back to haunt her.

“There is proof.” PI Luke Murphy can’t stop thinking about what Abby’s former partner, Asa Foster, mumbled just before he died. When he uncovers a clue to the murder of Abby’s parents and his uncle, he’s reluctant to tell Abby, despite his growing feelings for the beautiful detective.

A decade-old abduction case brings Luke and Abby together, but will his secret tear them apart?

The second book in the Cold Case Justice series picks right up where the first one left off with more power-packed action and suspense. Unless you are a reader who turns to the end of the book to see how things turn out before reading the rest of the book, I definitely recommend you read this series in sequence. Still struggling with the lack of complete resolution regarding the murder of her parents years earlier, Detective Abby Hart is thrown into a serious crisis that almost knocks her out of the game early in the story. I love the elements of faith and tough love that have such an impact on Abby and how she learns from her own experiences to help others. Luke and Woody have teamed up to look for missing girls and to work a few cold cases. All three of them are seeking in their own way to bring closure to families suffering from devastating losses caused by the death of loved ones or other traumatic crimes involving them or family members. Romance lies just below the surface much like real life when handsome men encounter beautiful women. I appreciate that the author keeps it all clean and above board. The big question continues to revolve around the death of Abby's parents and Luke's uncle. Will they ever find out who is the mastermind behind these deaths? While helping others find closure, will Abby finally get the answers she is seeking? And is she going to marry Ethan or not?

Detective Abby Hart questions her job as a police officer after a work-related incident, while still struggling with the death of her parents. Private investigator Luke Murphy finds evidence to explain the deaths of Abby's parents, but is reluctant to tell her. I thought this book was a good read, and a continuation of the first in the series. I am looking forward to the third book for the conclusion of the story.

I loved this series. Couldn't put the books down. Janice Cantore is a new author for our church library. I have already ordered more of her books because they are exciting with a Christian thread running through the story.

Once again Janice Cantore did not disappoint. This book was exciting, suspenseful and had a thread of Christian themes throughout the story. It continues the story of Abby Hart and a 10 year old cold-case abduction.

Janice Cantore continues her Cold Case Justice series with Burning Proof as PI Luke and his now partner retired cop Woody, are taking care of the files and evidence of late Asa Fosters (Abbys former partner), that concerns the murder of Abbys parents and Lukes uncle. Choosing not to let Abby know what they found, Luke and Woody have also signed up to work with the newly formed Cold Case Squad. Their first unofficial assignment involves a young woman who was kidnapped and brutally assaulted yet escaped and lived to tell about it. Her attacker, ten years later has yet to be found.

Abby has had a crushing blow as she had to shoot a victims father in self-defense and she is having a rather hard time coping. Not only with the fallout of the shooting, but also about the facts that she and Luke uncovered from the previous book. Abby deciding to take a break from police work goes to reconnect with her aunt and fianc Ethan.

Luke fills guilty about keeping secrets from Abby about the cold case that has affected them both and he is also trying to get over his attraction for her. Luke and Abby are not together through most of this book and there was an introduction of a new love interest that has me a little concerned (I am rooting for Abby and Luke to get together). Author Cantore does a splendid job of keeping the book moving for the major story arc cold case and the new one that Luke, Woody, and eventually Abby (who is brought in later) need to solve before the statute of limitations is up.

I look forward to the third installment. I received a copy of this book for an honest review through The Book Club Network, Inc. and the opinions are my own.
