Who doesn't love a good book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book does just that there are so many twist and turns you never know what's going to happen next. In fact at one point in the book something intense was happening and my houses fire alarms went off needless to stay I jumped. I really liked how no matter what the characters faced it was always coming back to rely on God and his will in there lives. I really liked how the book kept you guessing from the beginning to the end. This book is a clean read and will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one till the last page. You really can't go wrong with this amazing read.

I really had troubles wrapping my head around the premise of this book. I don't believe a completely rational person like Jason would kidnap an FBI agent completely not premeditated, and with the massive risks it entails, or get out of trouble so well after the fact, innocent of murder or not. But if you can get past that... the book is pretty good. Plenty of action, suspense, a dash of romance, everything you expect from this wonderful author.

So would I recommend this book? Definitely, yes. Just be prepared to disengage your logical side for a while and hold on for the ride.

I received this book from Tyndale House Publishers for an honest review. My opinion is my own.

I loved this romantic suspense with so many twists and turns. I had a hard time putting this book down. I loved the characters. I love reading books with FBI agents. It is interesting to see how they might truly work. April and Jason have to go through a lot of adversity before everything ends. I received a copy of this book from Tyndale Blog Network for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

This review was written for Burden of Proof, Hardcover.
This author has pretty much become my go-to for romantic suspense. While I enjoy suspense with little or no romance just fine, I've yet to read a book by this author that I didn't either like or love.

Now, I'll admit this one had a bumpy start for me. Through the first quarter or so, I had some trouble making technical and emotional sense of the story. And because I couldn't get too good of a handle on Jason and his logic for some time, I wasn't feeling him.

I'll further admit that I didn't buy into the romance. In most cases, I have a hard time with stories where the hero or heroine is "finding God" for the first time while simultaneously getting romantically involved with someone. Because both of these brand new relationships require such soul-deep connections, adjustments, and commitments, I can't help thinking that if one relationship hits a big bump too soon, the other one (or both) might not stick, especially when both relationships formed over just a few days.

Besides that, yes, I know it's fiction, but if desperation drives a man to abduct and proceed to order a woman around by threatening her with a gun (while she's holding his baby, no less), I just don't see the abductor becoming a wise or fitting option for a romantic partner, and certainly not in less than a week's time. Sure, he may not be a bad person at heart, but he's shown what he's capable of in a crisis. What happens the next time a huge crisis blindsides him and he again becomes desperate?

If you've not heard of Stockholm syndrome, when hostages form an emotional bond with their captors, you may want to look it up.

Anyhow. With all that said, I still enjoyed the suspense storyline in this novel, and I found the heroine relatable in other ways. I'll be keeping my eyes open for the next book in this series.

    Thrill Ride

FBI Special Agent April Ramos is struggling to get over a negotiation gone wrong when a woman thrusts a crying baby into her arms, then flees. Moments later, a man approaches her claiming to be the child's father and takes her hostage at gunpoint. She learns this man is a fugitive accused by the local sheriff of murder. Her FBI skills are about to be tested to the limit.

Jason Snyder is desperate to keep his daughter safe after her abduction and he's determined to prove the murder allegations against him are wrong. For some reason, the crafty sheriff is out to get him. On the run for his life, he must convince April of his innocence.

April struggles with Jason's claim but soon realizes something sinister is going on in the sleepy town of Sweet Briar, Texas when she overhears a conversation with the sheriff. Can Jason and April trust in the system to solve this mystery? Will their attraction for each other get in the way?

DiAnn Mills does it again! This riveting tale is cleverly woven and leaves the reader breathless. She is a masterful storyteller and this new release is no exception. It grabbed me from the first page and didn't let me go until I finished it. This is a sign of a great novel.

The characterization in this book is superb. I fell in love with both April and Jason, finding myself cheering them on in their quest to solve Jason's mystery. Adding a child to the mix was also a nice touch. It made my heart melt when Jason showed his love for his little girl.

The tension and conflict in this story were well placed. Just when you think they were safe, wham! Something else happens. This puts the reader right into the story, holding their breath. The author's use of sensory is done effectively. It brings the words on the page to life.

The faith aspects in the storyline are well done and realistic. The romance between the two characters was an added bonus to the novel!

I give Burden of Proof five stars. I guarantee you won't be able to put it down!
