Amy Clipston's books make you feel like you've slipped into a beautiful Amish community you'll never want to leave. Building a Future incorporated more of the Amish dialect and felt very authentic. While the first book in the series was the father's love story, this story focuses on the eldest of the family's three sons who falls in love with his brother's girlfriend. Already at odds with his brother, Tyler knows he can never act on his feelings. Would God place such love in his heart for a woman he could never share his feelings with? He is torn between praying that God removes the love he feels and praying for a miracle.

Firstly, I must thank Amy Clipston and Zac Weikal for my ARC copy of this book in return for a review. All the opinions shared below are completely mine.

Amy Clipston has produced another 5 star plus read for me. I loved going back and visiting with those we had met in book one of the series but a little over a year later. I enjoyed getting to know the three brothers and Michelle, her two sisters and friends. I found the one that was getting married a little overbearing and annoying...so much so I can't remember her name.

The plot was extremely believable for both the Amish and English world and I have known couples who have actually gone through this. I loved the characters and how they developed in this book. We got to see the boys father happily married...book one featured his story. I really felt the emotion of the characters by the words and descriptions that Amy used. She never fails to paint a picture with her words and those images are as clear as the painting I could imagine on Michelle's milk can pictures. I loved the idea of the scripture on the base of the can.

I am glad that things worked out in the end and I really look forward to seeing how all the marriages progress in hopefully a third book and see how the new relationships work out. Maybe we will see some little Bontragers???

If you have never read an Amy Clipston book before this can be read without having read the first book, Foundation of Love but I prefer to read a series in order. I would definitely recommend this along with all other of Amy's books including her contemporary fiction and feel blessed to have been able to read and review this book.

My Review of Building a Future

In this next installment of Amy Clipston's Amish Legacy Series, called Building a Future, we find Michelle Lantz hoping for a proposal from her very skittish boyfriend of over a year, Korey Bontrager. Korey always seems to have a chip on his shoulder ....ever since his Mom passed away and his father remarried. It's as if since he's not happy, no one else can be happy, too.

Korey's older brother, Tyler, seems to have no problem having meaningful conversations with Michelle and soon finds himself falling for her (and the feeling might be mutual !!), but knows this could just lead to trouble. Tyler doesn't like the way Korey takes Michelle for granted and keeps trying to take Korey to task about his actions.

By the end of the story both Michelle and Korey learn several things about themselves and their relationship .....and how thing will end up for them as they head into the future.

Building a Future, by Amy Clipston, is the second novel in the Amish Legacy series. The small town setting and compelling characters make this a very special novel. Family relationships, misunderstandings, faith, and friendships blend well together to create a storyline that is quite moving. With writing that is engaging and clever, this novel is certainly memorable and entertaining.

As the story begins, the readers interest is quickly captured through Ms. Clipstons effortless ability to develop believable characters and the communities in which they live. The characters in this novel are especially appealing, because they are authentic, vulnerable, and relatable. The various conflicts that add dramatic tension to the plot further increase the interest in the story as it flows deftly toward a satisfying conclusion. Relevant themes of loyalty, commitment, and honesty strengthen the story and give it an uplifting, thoughtful tone.

Building a Future is truly a worthy novel. It features a touching story that is wholly enjoyable, and I gladly recommend it to all readers. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

*I was given a copy of this book by the author. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.

I simply love this series and don't know how I am going to wait so long for book three to come out! If you haven't read book one, Foundation of Love, you can still enjoy this story. However, book one is such a good book and sets the stage for Korey and Tyler's dad's marriage.

Having read the first book, I knew how badly Korey had begun behaving towards his stepmother. That very childish and basically, bratty, behavior continued in this story. I was bewildered as to why his father allowed him to show such disrespect. I also felt that Korey was given chance after chance to make up for the many times his actions emotionally hurt his girlfriend, Michelle. I am hoping that by the time Korey gets his own book, he will have matured a lot. It could be a wonderful redemption story!

Tyler was a great character who I couldn't help but like. Both he and Michelle did begin to care for each other, unbeknownst to each other, and they both walked a thin line while they tried to force their feelings to match who they were currently dating. I really enjoyed the way things played out in the latter half of the novel, as feelings ramped up and decisions had to be made.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
