Publisher's Description

Fun ideas of things to do, places to see, and ways to make a difference!

Everyone dreams about places to see, people to meet, and things to do in their lifetime. But too often we lose sight of those dreams and get buried in everyday busyness and demands. More Than a Bucket List will inspire you to seize and act on a range of dreams—anything from visiting the Holy Land, donating your time at a soup kitchen, learning to climb a tree, or helping a child learn to read. The book also includes ideas to make lasting memories as you marvel at a new sight, laugh like crazy with an old friend, or change a life.

The compilation of bucket list items is divided thematically and blended with Scripture and personal stories. Pages at the back allow you to write your own bucket list items. Are you ready to finish this life well and start checking off items from your bucket list?

I was so excited when I saw the title for this book - "More than a Bucket List: Making Your Dreams, Passions, and Faith a Reality"! And although its organization seems very random and difficult to navigate, it does contain many creative, unique and meaningful ideas for life.

If you're looking for a coffee table type book or quick devotional thought book, this may fit the bill. It does have a wide assortment of short, thoughtful readings, which do challenge. Along with those there are random Bucket list ideas. For instance, a list titled "Live faithfully" contains things like: Write a love letter to God, Live as if heaven really is on earth, and Float on the Dead Sea. Granted, the "Float on the Dead Sea" type phrases may be to just catch our attention, but it just seemed very random to me.

Like I said though, if you need a quick devotional thought book that contains some great "Real-Life Challenges" like write your dad an IOU for all his sacrifices, maybe this book is for you. Just realize that along with the devotional writings you'll also be getting random ideas such as since a one-minute kiss burns about the same number of calories as a Hershey's Kiss, give more kisses and eat more Kisses!

I do think the hardcover copy would be a great coffee table type book to have lying around at home or at the office. Someone could pick it up and read a random thought of faith that may change their life or at least get them thinking!

I'm not sure what type things you may have been thinking about for your Bucket List, or what your dreams, passion and faith may look like. This book certainly has a huge amount of randomness though, so surely something may appeal to you! And really, a good dose of randomness can be a good thing!

So although this book wasn't what I expected, I think it's certainly one that can be enjoyed and bring splashes of inspiration to our lives!

More Than A Bucket List: Making Your Dreams, Passions, And Faith A Reality by Toni Birdsong was a book I enjoyed. It was so easy to read that I read the whole book in one day!

At times the book felt like it was written for super rich people with advice such as to visit Germany, Ireland, and Belgium.

Here's a sample of a more down to earth section: Live with strength

"Don't say yes when you mean no. Buy a blender and start making healthy smoothies. Spend your time on the real problems, not the imaginary ones. Determine to live an outrageously creative life. Learn to ask for help when you need it. Understand and overcome the fear of death. Find a mentor. Be a mentor. Surrender "that one thing" to God. Read the book Boundaries. Only keep healthy relationships. Right a wrong. Don't major in the minors. Let the small stuff go."

There are some good ideas/advice. On the other hand, some advice/ideas seem pretty meaningless and worldly to me. "Eat a Dodger Dog at Dodger Stadium", "Attend a U2 concert", "Visit Graceland in Memphis. As you walk around, try for just 1 percent of Elvis's swagger", "See the Rose Bowl Parade in person", etc. Even though lots of the ideas are silly, it was a fun book to read. One of my favorite ideas is to make a reverse bucket list (listing things you have already done rather than what you haven't yet done) which I did.

My advice? Take this book with a grain of salt. Know your own dreams and passions. By the grace of God, work as hard as you can to achieve them. And be thankful even if you never "take a surfing lesson" or "go horseback riding on the beach of an exotic island at sunset" or "fly first-class just once".

Note: I received this book from Thomas Nelson/Booksneeze for free in exchange for my honest review.

Here is a book that is filled with a list of Christian-minded ideas for your bucket list. It's a cute hardcover book (6″x 5″) with ideas of things to do and places to go. The "more" part of the title is the bits of inspiration that accompany some of the bucket list ideas. Unfortunately many ideas in the book are costly and I can't imagine many being able to seriously consider them; however, there are some ideas mentioned that are financially reasonable or even completely free. Silly ideas. Serious ideas. Some ideas I wouldn't consider as a good suggestion like the "break the rules once in a while" since some of these are not showing good Christian judgement and behavior. But many ideas are good. I'm adding to my bucket list "live 100 percent complaint-free" after I successfully accomplish this thirty day goal. (Colossians 3:12)

Some "my bucket list" pages in the back are provided as a place to record your personal plan of action.

More Than a Bucket List : Making Your Dreams, Passions, and Faith a Reality by Jennifer Barrow

More than a bucket list was a very nice read. It makes the reader think about those passions that they put on the back burner and perhaps forgot about. I enjoyed the book and I know anyone who picks up this book will not only reflect on what they put on the back burner but perhaps fulfill those dreams. I did not know what to expect from this book but the title was interesting. Some parts of the book I read over and over and I found them very inspirational. Like Find the Mute Button on Life, Live faithfully, Live with Strength, and Embrace Grace. I also loved a part in the book that tells you be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire quoted by Catherine of Siena. I loved this quote so much I wrote it down and read it every morning and when I am feeling blah. Great book makes you want to embrace God and ask Him what dreams does He have for you? God Bless.

    My Review:

I requested this book for review, because I was intrigued by the title. Then when I got it and skimmed through the pages, I thought, ‘Hmmm, another volume of fluffy stuff '. However, when I settled down to read it thoroughly, I changed my tune. It really is ‘More Than a Bucket List'. It does have lists of things to pursue in the hopes of enriching your life, but so much more! It's a well-thought out and beautifully designed book of personal anecdotes, scripture passages and ‘bucket list' suggestions on how to ‘live intentional' with topics like: ‘Aspire to be Iridescent, Make Amends, Be a Good Samaritan. (No, I'm not going to try bungee jumping or order sushi now - those just don't fit into my bucket, but starting a gratitude journal works for me. And trying all thirty-three flavours of cheese cake at The Cheese Factory is tempting_if I can figure out where it is.) Seriously though, the strength of this book lies in its nuggets- of- truth- with-a-dash-of-humour:

"Give your opinion_less. It's a humbling and abrupt awakening when we realize the world has not formed a line outside our front door anxiously awaiting the moment we emerge with our opinion on the matter. Think about it: When's the last time someone called and said, "If you don't speak with me about this decision immediately, it will ruin my life!" Opportunity to speak into others' lives will come. Until then, resist the urge to splurge with words, and zip it."

If there's anybody on your gift-giving list who enjoys inspiring, motivational and amusing quick reads, I recommend ‘More Than a Bucket List' - it's a beautiful little gift book!
