Mitch, who goes to youth group with Ramie and is the pastor's son, asks her out on a date, and Ramie clings to the idea of having a boyfriend like a lifesaver, even though she has doubts about Mitch's character. Surely there's no better public announcement of her "straightness." The problems between Ramie and Jess escalate when Ramie tries to talk Jess out of her "stupid choice" and preaches at her. In a fit of anger, Jess accidentally fractures Ramie's arm, benching her.
Ramie would never publicly expose Jess, but their teammates figure things out on their own and are so offended that they plot to get Jess to quit the team, even though basketball is Jess's passion. Things are bad enough for them as female athletes, often called "jock chicks" by the other students. On a terrible night when they publicly humiliate her, Ramie is convicted of her condemning attitude by a teammate who has the courage to reach out and be a friend to Jess regardless of what anyone else thinks. Challenged to stop "throwing stones," Ramie begins to discover the truth of what it means to love people the way Jesus did.

JesusFreak5 Stars Out Of 5An Excellent Book!November 3, 2011JesusFreakQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I hear alot of talk about just accepting who you are and that being a lesbian is a chemical thing. Well im here to set it straight because it said directly in the bible (if someone of you would take the time to read it, before you call yourselves christians) it has an entire section dealing with homosexuality!
Leveticus 18:22- Do not lie with a man as one lies with a women, that is detestable
Leviticus 20:13- If a man lies with a man as he lies with a woman, that is detestable. They shall be put to death; there blood will be on their own heads.
1 Corithians 6:9-10- Do you not know that the wicked will not inheirt the kingdom of god? Do not be decieved: neither the SEXUALLY immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor HOMOSEXUAL OFFENDERS!
Now who wants to tell me that being homosexual is a chemical thing?!
The bible saids that we were ALL born sinners but its up to us to choose the right way!
Its a choice to become lesbians!
God cereated us to be HUSBANDS AND WIVES not wives and wives or husbands and husbands!
If your lesbian ask god to forgive you and listen to him and repent for your sins because he knows best!
GOD WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!
Savy2 Stars Out Of 5March 1, 2010SavyThe book wasn't what I thought it would be. I am very disappointed that the author made religion such a big issue in the book. Being gay really isn't a choice I would know because I am a lesbian myself. When your coming out you don't want to be put down for it and you deff don't want the bible shoved down your throat. Being gay is NOT a dangerous lifestyle. But for all you bible beater's in the bible is does say treat everyone equally does it not? I mean what if people hated you just because you have a certain hair color, that's not something you can choose its how your born, seriously think about how you would feel if you were our shoes.
Laura1 Stars Out Of 5April 25, 2009LauraThis book is told from a Christian homophobe's point of view. For the most part, it is well written, but the end is VERY disappointing. At the end, it says we're not supposed to be homosexuals and its not Christian and its wrong, but if you know someone who is gay you should try to convert them into being straight. You know I thought this book would be different, but its written by a homeophobic, Melody Carlson. I am very upset with Melody, i thought she would support gay people, being a Christian and all. Gay people have a chemical brain imbalance. That is why they are gay. Not because they choose to. Its just how God made them, with a chemical brain imbalance! But this book says its a choice- ITS NOT A CHOICE. It is a CHEMICAL BRAIN IMBALANCE! This book doesn't teach the truth and its not really worth reading.
Josephine5 Stars Out Of 5March 28, 2009JosephineI REALLY liked this book. I am positive that Jesus opposes and condemns homosexuality hating the sin BUT yet still loving the sinnER. That is what this book is about-hating the sin but loving the sinner as God called us to do. I am fourteen, and I loved this book. It was full of the love of Christ who loved us and hated our sins, dying for US-straights and homosexuals so that we could change.
Monique Siri1 Stars Out Of 5August 30, 2008Monique SiriI'm a 14 year old Christian, and I absolutely hated reading this book. I've never read a book with such selfish, homophobic "Christian" characters. Ramie acts as if Jess is contagious, FOUL and even posessed. Jess' parents act as if their child is DEAD. They're so ASHAMED of their own child. It's so sad to read something like that, because true Christians accept the "sinner". I know that's what happens at the end, but they should have never been so horrible and selfish in the first place. I'm not gay myself, but I find this book highly offensive and wrong. I don't know how someone can read a book like that. Being gay should not disgust someone. Homophobia disgusts me.
