MaryAge: Under 185 Stars Out Of 5April 6, 2008MaryAge: Under 18This review was written for A Bride Most Begrudging.Several women have written reviews about the inappropriate sensuality in this book, saying that teens only wrote good reviews because their mothers must not have known what they are reading. Well, my mother and I both read this book and we simply loved it! It is not about sensuality and sin. It is about the daughter of an Earl, kidnapped and taken to America, where in a game of dice, she finds her self married to a colonist. The search for God in the midst of all this plays a big role as well. There is nothing overly sensual. Gist has tastefully written this book. Deanne Gist, don't be discouraged by those who cannot appreciate your work, for there are many of us who love your writing, and your books! Continue to keep up the good work.

Olivia Allman5 Stars Out Of 5May 19, 2006Olivia AllmanThis review was written for A Bride Most Begrudging. This novel is an amazing debut. The humour was delivered on time, the realism between Connie (Constance) and Drew on all aspects (annoyance, sexual tension, humour, commoandrie and love), was also right on the money. For those who have read previous reviews and are concerned about the "sexual tension" don't. There is a fine line between "christian" and "secular" fiction but Gist does not cross this line. Though sometimes you feel you may want to raise an eyebrow, it is done in good taste and when looking at the authors website, you will see that her novel is first in line of many books (from various authors) trying to inject some realism into the Christian Fiction world on that front. Just because we are Christians doesn't mean temptations are not in the way, and to write it like it is so is wrong. So they don't. But at any rate, it is great read, perfect for relaxing in the bathtub or on the couch

Mary ACanadaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Intriguing!October 4, 2011Mary ACanadaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for A Bride Most Begrudging. This book is set in a time period and place that I am very fascinated with and it was a very intriguing read. I loved the contrast between upper crust Lady Constance Morrow and the gruff Drew O'Conner, as well as the whole "tobacco bride" idea. The plot is suspenseful and is likely to keep you reading far into the night, since you won't want to put it down. A definite asset to your bookshelf!
