ConnieKentuckyAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Book for GirlsJanuary 2, 2020ConnieKentuckyAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Braver, Stronger, Smarter: A Girl's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety.Counselor Sissy Goff has written a companion book to Raising Worry-Free Girls and even though the target age group for this book is for elementary girls, I believe that Braver Stronger Smarter will be of benefit to ALL girls. This book continues to address the 'Worry Monster' and it also covers the same three topics of Understanding, Help, and Hope but this book is more of a workbook. It has fun stories, appealing black and white line illustrations, a space to answer questions and jot down thoughts, and even drawing prompts to help a young girl envision herself as being braver, stronger, and smarter.
I am fortunate to have the adult version, Raising Worry-Free Girls, and I am thrilled to have this companion book to help my granddaughter face her fears and worries and conquer that 'Worry Monster'!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House but there was no obligation to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts. -
danniAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5wonderful resourceDecember 16, 2019danniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Braver, Stronger, Smarter: A Girl's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety.I have never personally dealt with anxiety but after 7 years of leading a youth group of pre-teen and teen girls that have been diagnosed with anxiety, I realized I need a better grasp on what that looks like for a teen girl and how it impacts their daily lives.
The book itself is designed to be completed by both you and your daughter. Goff presents three rules before diving in:
- Go Slow
- Don't Give Up
- Have Fun
Three sections develop the format of the book:
- Understanding: you and your daughter will learn the what and why of anxiety and worry. Providing a foundational understanding will help to move from the anxiety and worry to the acknowledgment stage.
- Help: you and your daughter will review different tools that can help fight anxiety and worry when they begin to appear. You will also learn how it effects your mind, body and soul. Understanding these effects should push you to desire ways to combat it.
- Hope: you and your daughter will gain Scriptural insight into the Hope that Christ freely gives, how He alone is the one that can conquer our anxiety and worry.
The book provides many sections that allow for personal reflection, journaling, question answering, and insight.
It's not an intense, in depth book and it shouldn't be as it is meant for pre-teens and teens. I can see the benefit of completing the book alongside a parent. At the very end, Goff also provides a brief "master plan of attack" that could be memorized or cut out as a keepsake. It summarizes all the steps and hope discussed in the book.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

bhodges5 Stars Out Of 5highly recommend.. both the adult and child will learn from it.March 12, 2023bhodgesValue: 5Meets Expectations: 4This review was written for Braver, Stronger, Smarter: A Girl's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety.i completed this book with my 9 year old daughter, who had been working with an art therapist for about a year. We both agreed that it was more helpful then the whole year of counseling and got us communicating more clearly with each other. Now, about two years later, we are going through it again, because we both know we have more to learn.

Sue5 Stars Out Of 5Great for Girls!December 16, 2019SueQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Braver, Stronger, Smarter: A Girl's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety.BRAVER STRONGER SMARTER, A Girls Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety is EXCELLENT! I had the chance to go through this book with an eleven year old who struggles with worry. This book hit the proverbial nail on the head and is a great resource!!!
Sissy Goff takes you through nine lessons on worry and anxiety. Girls can work on the lessons themselves, but do need to interact with an adult at times through the lessons. I found them revenant and easy to understand. This book in intended for girls in elementary school. I would recommend it for grades 2-8. The advice in this book is relevant and practical.
This is a workbook that girls can work through, reflect and learn more about themselves. This can be done over nine weeks, nine nights or anywhere in between. However, it will take time to process all the thought provoking material.
I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review. I would recommend this book! -
Sarah PDubuque, IAAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great resource for young girlsJanuary 2, 2020Sarah PDubuque, IAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Braver, Stronger, Smarter: A Girl's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety. If you have a worrier or a girl with anxiety who is young- like elementary age-- this workbook is for her. I've done therapy with a young boy for these concerns, and this book- wow! A chance for a parent or trusted friend to help a girl process and learn how to overcome fear, anxiety, or worry. It offers best practice solutions, in a gentle friendly, real approach that will appeal to girls. The therapist shares using her small dog, Lucy's, perspective she defines it, teaches strategies, asks the reader to draw, write, and reflect on her own perspective and share her thoughts, beliefs, and plan her actions. The author cautions the reader to go slowly through this book, and while I know many parents want to 'fix' concerns-- having done weekly therapy with a young child- it is a marathon and it really does need to be approached slowly over time and internalized to be effective.
I love that this is a biblically driven books and one of the strategies is to chose worry verses to recite and help overcome the worries. This perspective is needed and in me experience one of the best techniques to cope with those feelings that are not facts or logical, but yet they can control your life if you allow them to. There is also a book for adults that partners with this one- and I'd be interested in reading it as well.
Thankful to partner with Bethany House Publishing and read this book. I will be adding it to my resources and using/recommending it others who may be able to use it.
