Randi5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't Put It DownFebruary 6, 2019RandiNow, I'll admit, it was my love of Lisa Leonard Designs that first had me wanting to pick up this book. If you've ever browsed through her jewelry designs, it's clear to see that there is a lot of heart put into each piece, and I knew that I could expect nothing less from the book as well. I also felt it would be great to get a little behind the scenes look at how it all began. And I got both of those things in my reading-- heart and a behind the jewelry look.
But it was also so much more than that, and I found myself relating to Lisa Leonard on multiple levels. The first being as a mother of a special needs child. Now, the challenges our children face are very different. Her child faces physical challenges, where my child does not. Still, many of the challenges and thought processes along the way remain the same. It's a new reality that takes some time to learn to adjust to... but one full of many blessings. I truly enjoyed her openness in talking about this experience in such a real way--- the good and the bad.
More than anything though, this book spoke to the perfectionist in me. The me who tries to be the best at everything. The mom in me who puts everyone else's needs before her own. Though the life I have lived has been so different, I saw myself so much in these pages. It was refreshing to see someone else who got it. To know that I was not alone in these struggles.
Each chapter concludes with a poem, and I loved that addition. Poetry has such a beautiful way of speaking to our hearts, and I enjoyed taking that in. Many of these poems- much like the book- focused on that idea of being enough. Enough is my One Little Word for this year, so I really felt like this is a book I needed to read. I couldn't put it down, finishing in just one night!
At some point, I think we as women all struggle with thoughts of not being enough, of insecurities, of putting our own needs last... making 'Brave Love' a must read for all.
**Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
K Fischer5 Stars Out Of 5An honest, encouraging storyJanuary 30, 2019K FischerIn Brave Love, Lisa Leonard shares her story of bravery; the good, the bad and the ugly. She is honest, vulnerable and inspiring. As a mom of a special needs child, I found so much hope in her story. I felt encouraged and validated as I read about her experience parenting her son, David. At the end of each chapter, she shares a poem that she wrote that connects to the topic of the chapter, which was very sweet. It was a very quick read that I enjoyed very much. I would definitely recommend this book.
I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher.
EmP2416Age: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Read of Overcoming OddsJanuary 30, 2019EmP2416Age: 35-44Gender: FemaleAs women, we often put ourselves in last place. We do for others, help our families and co-workers. But how often do we continue to neglect our own most basic needs? Lisa Leonard opens up about how she realized that she'd been placing everyone else in front of her own needs since childhood, and how that affected her health because of it.
Lisa shares her story of how she met her husband, the birth of her two boys (one of whom has special needs) and the beginning of her wildly successful jewelry company, Lisa Leonard Designs. However, this is not a business book. "Brave Love" is a personal, heartfelt memoir that also leaves the reader evaluating the amount of time they take to replenish themselves.
I enjoyed the conversational tone of the book, and Lisa is entertaining while being brutally honest. She openly shares the struggles in her marriage, the overwhelm that sets in as she feels as though she's taking on too much and the knowledge that she has been consistently putting her needs last. Lisa is also connected to her faith, which is obvious throughout the book. She shares personal poetry that ties to the theme of the chapters. (My favorite chapter in the book was one called "Meeting Jazmin" which you will need some Kleenex for, trust me.)
The heart of this book is for the reader to hear Lisa's story and glean from both her mistakes and her triumphs. I couldn't put the book down and actually read it in one sitting. I have several friends who I know need the message therein and I plan on gifting a few copies as I am able to.
I was an early reader thanks to Zondervan. All opinions are my own.

Through her joyful and heartbreaking life experiences, she bravely shares with the world her raw, vulnerable, and honest feelings of being the mom of a child with disabilities, a wife with a struggling marriage, and a successful businesswoman with a rapidly expanding jewelry business. Tween Mama5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful Words of WisdomJanuary 29, 2019Tween MamaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I fell in love with Lisa Leonard when I first met her at a holiday market years ago and bought up all sorts of beautiful jewelry goodies for my daughters and gal pals. I love Lisa's vulnerability in her new book baby, Brave Love, and how she shares about brave love, personal worth and giving yourself the freedom to live into joy. Lisa spoke especially to my mama's heart with her transparency about making herself a priority--something all mamas can relate to.
