When I purchased this DVD set, I was extremely excited to find a series based on biblical principles featuring children of color. As a child, my family found it extremely difficult to secure literature with characters that children of color could relate to, and anyone who has lived this experience, or even simply studied Sociology, can understand the importance of children being able to see characters who look like them and share similar experiences in their books and media. As much of a cliche as "shocked and appalled" may be, there is no better way to describe my disappointment upon viewing these videos. I purchased them for my son's 5th birthday, and my sister and nephew were visiting at the time. She, too, was so excited to see them, I told her I'd purchase a set for her son (who was 11 at the time). We all sat down to watch them together, and quickly realized an additional purchase would not be desirable. My children are not allowed to watch very many things on television/video, and I am very selective about what goes into their eyes and ears at such a young age. This series is very offensive, as it demonstrates more arrogant and ignorant aspects of the African-American culture than the norm. It is the animated equivalent of any Black exploitation film one could find in the adult section of your video store, and the fact that it potentially cements ill-informed mindsets about who we are, as a people, is even more frustrating and angering than the horrible production value. The animation is horribly poor, and is reminiscent of a student who has learned the basics and decided to run with that, alone, as opposed to becoming a respectable animator whose props do not continually pass through the bodies of the characters holding them. The story line is more focused on the pride of one specific family and their self-aggrandizing than any legitimate biblical message. Even the characters' defeat of the so-called enemies of God reeks of haughtiness and personal strength far and above any mention of the humility of depending upon God for HIS strength. I agree, 100%, with the review of coolmamacass, and wish her review had been here at the time of my purchase. The single review that was posted said this series was good, gave no detail, and was an absolute lie. As much as I would hate to discourage the young man who created this project, I must say that it is a complete waste of money unless one is seeking an example of what-not-to-do when creating an animated series.

My mom bought this set for my 5 yr old for his birthday. My kids 5,6 and 7 were super excited to watch it. Honestly I cannot believe how offensive it was!!! It's almost as if it was made to scare kids away from God for life. These 7 brothers are called by God through an angel to fight demon robots, yes you read that right demons in robot form. The script is atrocious!!!!!!!!! At one point the brothers come home and their sister who's dressed like she's been clubbing goes why can't I learn to fight in the spirit, they all ignore her including the parents and she goes fine I'll just go play with my barbies. So apparently we want kids to think that only boys are called by God to fight evil. At this point I am so far beyond annoyed (like 4 minutes in) but I'm trying to let the kids watch as these brothers who are dressed to fill every black stereotype possible continue to repeat horibble lines over and over (my 6yr old goes he said that 6 times already) then they head off to fight more demon robots. At this point all 3 beg me to turn it off. So on top of stereotyping this black family to pieces, making the daughter a floozy incapable of serving God, robot demons, parents who tell the kids if they don't clean the house they can't go on any more missions for God, and a script written by a 4 yr old, we come to animation that is so poor I strongly believe my 7 yr old could do as well in microsoft paint. When my kids said can we donate them I said no these will go in the trash, I do not want to turn whatever poor family purchased against God. If I could give this a negative 10 stars I would.

I purchased this for my grandjewels, just knowing they would love it. They are 9, 4 and 3. I was wrong, wrong, wrong! They watched it one time, which is very unusual. Normally when they get a new dvd, they watch it non-stop. I decided to watch it to try and understand why they had no interest in it. One of my jewels said it scared him. I found the animation to be amateurish and the characters were scary looking. The plot and story line was fair. It seemed "dark" for a video geared towards children. I was quite disappointed because when I saw it in the book store I was very excited to see a video I believed my grandjewels could relate to and enjoy. It would be a good movie IF more time, thought and effort had been put into the dialogue and animation.
