my blessed lifeHopkinsville, KYAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great read for leadersJanuary 7, 2014my blessed lifeHopkinsville, KYAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Boundaries For Leaders really caught my eye because ...well, it's by Dr. Henry Cloud and he writes great books! And this new one from him does not disappoint.
It's not exactly what I thought it might be about. I sort of picked it up hoping it was about leaders setting boundaries for their own time, etc., and, boy, was I going to read it aloud to my leader-husband. LOL
In reality, it's about how leaders can (and should) create boundaries for those they are leading--boundaries that they are able to succeed within. Each chapter is just full of nuggets of truth and wisdom.
One quote that has really stayed with me from this books is
"You cannot grow a plant by dipping
it into the dirt once a year.
It takes an ongoing connection
to build a root system."
Wow. That can be applied to so many areas of life. Just real wisdom there.
In conclusion, this book focuses on these key points:
~help people do what is important
~create the right environment
~have deeply connected teams
~think optimistically, not negatively
~learn what you can control and what you can't
~strive for high performance
~lead yourself
If you are in leadership on any level--and most people are--then I definitely recommend this book. It's a very insightful read and, of course, Dr. Cloud is an excellent writer so you won't be bored in the least. -
KellyAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Valuable ResourceJune 23, 2013KellyAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Boundaries for Leaders by Dr. Henry Cloud is an excellent book with a very apt title. Dr. Cloud explores the challenge of why some people get results and others don't. He spends the first part of the book exploring the brain science behind success and then explains a program to help steer companies in the right direction of developing a culture that is conducive to growth and productivity. It is a very well laid out book with a lot of very practical explanations to help leaders in a variety of situations to get the most out of themselves, out of their employees and all the other individuals they work with.
I can see how this book would be incredibly helpful for someone in the corporate world or as a leader in a church environment. As a stay at home mom with an interest in leadership development, at times it felt quite over my head, but I did enjoy the read and found many relevant tidbits of information that could be applied to the different situations and interactions I find myself having with others.

graceAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Awesome for Leaders!May 21, 2013graceAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Recently I had the chance to read Boundaries for Leaders by Dr. Henry Cloud, provided from a service from BookSneeze, that gives copies of books to bloggers in return for a honest review, whether or positive or negative.
I am not in a leadership role, but I chose this book and when I received it I decided to look at it as not what I felt I wasn't, but what I could learn to be- because just as I stated the world needs followers, the world almost has a desperate good leaders- not just leaders, but good leaders. We have leaders aplenty today that got where they are out of backstabbing, blackmail, fear, jealousy, etc. I should have known that this was a good book when it gave a list of what to look for within your situation- red flags so to speak- regarding whether or not you have a problems with boundaries or focusing- its a good check list right at the beginning for you to gauge where you are.A good leader is someone who helps with more problems than they create, who sacrifices for the good of a team, who puts others needs first, takes responsibility for what happens, etc. But, another "must" of good leadership is good boundaries, and Cloud has, once again, made understanding that available to the middle man. He has broken down the idea of boundaries into the most workable areas, for example a couple are things that make results, connectivity, and performance.
I think anyone could this book, and it's a must for anyone in a leadership role.
