Brokenhearted, disappointed, and wanting more from lifeââ¬âif we are honest, most of us have endured a season or two or incredible difficulty. Julie Clinton sees and hears the needs and concerns of women all over America on a regular basis. She shows the way forward when all seems lost. In this transparent and encouraging book she walks beside her readers, revealing three steps to a more fulfilled life: breathe, believe, and bounce back. Clinton provides wisdom and encouragement to help women rediscover their joy and strength.
-- 1 Peter 5:10 After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Julie Clinton has tons of wonderful wisdom nuggets in this small but wise book. One of the best quotes I think was, "People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges (Joseph Fort Newton). Isn't that the truth. Julie just describes a lot of different scenarios in which we find ourselves in and wisdom nuggets. The reflection guide at the end I do believe is very thorough, but won't take a lot of time for you to work through. This book is perfect for a gift as well!
This book is so worth the read, underline it, do the exercises. I promise you will BOUNCE back!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
"Bounce Back: When Your Heart is Empty and Your Dreams are Lost" by Julie Clinton is a life coaching style Christian based book on helping women who are hurt or struggling, to learn to: breath, believe, and bounce back. Clinton gives in a text book format using scripture and women's life stories to share how to do those three things to recover from pain and enjoy life again.
I read this book when I didn't have any true problems or struggles currently happening in my life. So, I found it to be a bit of a downer. However, about in the middle of the book, Clinton takes on a chapter about the common "overwork" of women, especially mothers. You know, where you hide in order to have a little peace. This part of the book I sat up and took notice. I completely absorbed this area of the book. It actually made me feel better that what I go through on a regular bases is common enough to be given a whole chapter. I would expect that the rest of the book, though not pertaining to me at the moment, would be exceptionally helpful to someone who is struggling. I received this book for free from First Look.
Written specifically for women, Bounce Back shows effective ways to overcome loss and heartache due to loneliness, depression, divorce, issues with children, illness as well as many other situations which cause despair. Perfect as a small-group study or individual reading, Julie Clinton demonstrates return to living life through breathing, believing and bouncing back. Written in a direct style, this book gives personal examples along with Scriptural instances of women dealing with difficult issues yet turning back to the Lord, and in the process, back to a fulfilling life.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
A book almost every woman can relate to, Bounce Back is well written and right to the heart. The author helps women realize they must own the problem, take some time to deal with the situation, and finally to grasp their own worth and importance in life. "Bouncing back emotionally and spiritually is all about purpose and progress" sets the approach to this book coupled with the knowledge that no one is ever truly alone in struggles. Biblically based and strong, Bounce Back could truly make a difference.

"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." ~ Albert Einstein
Most women desire to be women of faith, with spiritual depth and maturity, but how can you do that when dealing with pain, anger, sadness, discouragement, hopelessness and desperation? Why can you find encouragement while life hands you a truck load of lemons? How do you push past the emotions that are longing to keep your bound to your current lot in life when all you want to do is leave it all behind and move forward?
How do you overcome dealing with a spouse that has walked away from your marriage, leaving you a single mom with responsibilities of dealing with bills, the house, kids and going back to work?
How do you deal with losing someone you loved to death or disease when you know God could have healed them?
How do you push past the pain from abuse in your childhood that happened decades ago and now are having to confront the nightmares and emotions even though you thought you left it all behind?
How do you deal with a spouse that has walked away leaving you holding the bag while they move on with a women half your age and now years later he wants your forgiveness while you are still holding on to the bitterness and resentment?
How do you deal with the fifth miscarriage in your life while hoping to fill your home with the sounds of a family and children and are now told you can't have any more?
Do any of these terms describe you or perhaps all of these?
If you are like most women, you can lay claim to one or more of these terms even if you don't want to. Most of us simply don't know how to break out of being burdened, in bondage or carry emotional baggage that is too heavy for one person to carry. We realize we are broken but don't know how to fix it.
We want to be set free, to break out and to bounce back!
That is the reason for the book, Bounce Back from Julie Clinton, that has been written to show you how you can not only break free but to bounce back and see your life from a completely different perspective, using stories she has gained from women going through those very things mentioned above. She shows you how to have hope again. That God does love you and He wants a better life for you. He does have a way for you to move from where you are, to the better life of your future and that you can bounce back from what has been holding you back.
I received Bounce Back by Julie Clinton compliments of Worthy Publishing for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are strictly my own. I think every woman at some point in her life can look back and see times where her own set backs have held her back more than she wanted. Julie's book not only shows you that God is with you every step of the way, but through the stories she shares of what other women went through and got through, you can share in the hope we can bounce back and move forward through our circumstances no matter how difficult. They are all 100% survivable! I easily give this book a 4 out of 5 stars!
Bounce Back for a stronger and more resilient You!
February 10, 2014
Women, have you experienced a loss, failure, exhaustion, stress, depression, despair, profound grief, or a deep and abiding loneliness? Do you find yourself rehearsing your problems over and over again, without any positive outcome? Has your self-esteem been stripped naked in the public square, for all to see? You may not be able to see it in the midst of your circumstance, but God has a very particular and personal plan waiting for you on the other side of your trial. When your heart is empty and your dreams are lost, Julie Clinton takes you directly to the heart of God to help you to Bounce Back with a stronger and more resilient you.
Using a unique approach, God's Word, and a myriad of examples collected over years of shepherding women in her Extraordinary Women Ministries, Julie Clinton walks you through three healing steps. First, Breathe. Take a retreat to the Lord for an emotional and spiritual breathing of your soul. Find your "foundation stones" for life. Next, Believe. Replace the old tapes playing inside your head with God's powerful words about who He says you areââ¬âBelieve it. Finally, make the decision to Bounce Back. Julie explains that every Bounce-Back is individual. It involves a definite purpose, and an action taken to move onward, to move forward, and to move higher.
When you take the risk to Bounce Back, you won't be the same, you will be better! You will bounce back stronger, and you will be ready to face the lifelong process of renewal by staying connected to God's Word.
With an easy writing style, some fetching title headings, and advice that hits the bull's eye, Julie Clinton presents valuable tools and a successful method to help hurting women walk through their dark valley and emerge victorious.
I especially liked two aspects of this book. First, Julie shows the reader how important the Word of God is to bring about healing to hurting people. Without the Word of God, can anyone be truly healed? The second is the Reflection Guide provided in the back of the book. The Reflection Guide includes Bible verses, prayers, passages to reflect upon, and how-to's for practical application. Great for Book or Bible Study groups!
It's plain to see that Julie cares deeply about the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of her readers. And, from the deep bench of endorsements this book has received, including a touching "Bounce-Back" Foreword by Karen Kingsbury, it's apparent that Julie Clinton is well-loved by her colleagues in Christian Women's ministries.
