The size is easier to handle, not awkward like 12 inch rulers.
Also, the clear design allows you to underline a passage without accidentally crossing out the passage below the one you are underlining. -

I also like that it has a scalloped edge to create underlines or boxes that stand out. It bends easy enough, but it isn't flimsy.

I previously used a typical hard ruler which was difficult to get a good straight line when you have to tilt it into the gutter and then sometimes it slips and you mess up the line. You will not be disappointed with this great flex ruler

I love it and have ordered more. If you like to underline with a ruler this is so much easier to use than the inflexible kind.
