Publisher's Description

Experience Pentecost. Look on as 130 converts shake a city. Meet Paul. Go with him as he plants the first Gentile church. Extend the kingdom's power and see the enemy upset. Walk with Paul as he travels to Corinth, Antioch, Ephesus and beyond. For those desiring to be a part of God's action in their churches, their communities and throughout the world, there is nothing that will help more than thoroughly understanding the book of Acts and applying what we can learn from it. Acts was designed to be God's training manual for Christians. It worked in the early church, and it works in the postmodern world. The reader's study of Acts in The Book of Acts will bring new intimacy with the Spirit and new joy in doing His will.

The preface was enough to give it away. The author was right about one thing, though: what happened to the 120 on Pentecost DID happen to them—for NOTHING happened to the 120 on the day of Pentecost! The Holy Spirit came upon the 12, NOT the 120. The antecedent of "they" in Acts 2:1 is "the eleven" ["they"—"the eleven"; "all"—all 12 (i.e., w/ Matthias)] (i.e., the APOSTLES) right there in the preceding verse. If you want "they...all" to mean the 120, you have to go all the way back up to the parenthetical, "by-the-way" mention of them in 1:15! That is not only irresponsible exegesis (to put it lightly), but it is also incorrect grammar.

If you can't even read the preface or introduction of commentary without seeing such typical manipulation of the sacred text, you do yourself nothing but harm by reading any farther.

"...there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema" (Gal. 1:6,7).

    Bad book.

Roman Catholics would not endorse it, that's how bad it is.

This has to be one of the very worst commentaries I have ever read.

It is written in a manner to further the agenda of the author and to prop up an incoherent faith which does not resemble the actual 1st Century church to whom the letter was written.

    Overall, a very bad purchase
