Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a sinner saved by grace through Jesus Christ, a wife, and a homeschool graduate and now mom. For the last several decades, I've been researching and writing on math, along with other topics. My heart is to point people to "seek the Lord, and His strength" (Psalm 104:4) in everything.

What was your motivation behind this project?  This project combined my love for history with my love for math. I was also excited to be working on a non-curriculum project that any student could use!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope this timeline will help students really get in a whole new way why they're learning math as they see how it has and continues to connect with art, science, warfare, cooking, and technology, and more. It's my prayer that they'll not only be excited about math, but also be built up in their faith as they see math as a way of describing God's creation that proclaims the Creator's praises.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  While I'd long known that math applied through history, getting to explore that in more depth was fascinating and gave me both a deeper appreciation for math and a more insightful understanding of history. For example, I'd never fully thought through how much scientific discoveries (which used math) influenced WW1 and WW2...and revolutionized how we live.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I've been blessed to know a lot of amazing people, and each has left a mark on my life. I also love to read and couldn't even begin to list all the authors that have inspired and encouraged me. Specifically in the area of math, God used a book by James Nickel that I read as a senior in high school to start me on my journey into exploring math.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  While ages 12 and up will really be able to dig into the details, even my early elementary child loved looking at the pictures, thereby subtly seeing that there's a purpose to studying math.
