His resistance to Nazi Germany made him a modern hero. His execution in 1945 made him a Christian martyr. A true story of love, courage, and sacrifice, this dramatized presentation tells the story of Lutheran minister Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who spoke out against Nazi oppression---and paid the ultimate price for his beliefs. 90 minutes.
I had read the book, Bonhoeffer, Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy before I ordered the DVD so I had a background for the movie. If I were to do it again, I would watch the DVD first and then read the book. The book is very intense and fills in all the gaps that the movie leaves out. The DVD is a good introduction to the book.
This movie was a good lesson for those living with adversity. It makes you consider how important it is to be an instrument in God's hand to help those around us while we are experiencing hardships ourselves. The movie was done well though it was a bit slow in places. Still, the message of grace working through one who knows he's going to die is what was inspiring to me.
The movie was well done and had a godly feel, but his compromised views on Christian ethics were a bit unsettling. Biblical Christians should beware and be prepared to discuss these subjects with pliable viewers.
an inspiring story based on one man's encounter with the Nazi machine. Well worth seeing, it does nevertheless leave unanswered some truly important moral and ethical issues. But even unanswered, the questions it raises are worth pondering.
