The BJU Press Reading 2 curriculum is centered upon four student text readers: Reading 2A: All God's Creatures, Reading 2B: Hearts and Hands, Reading 2C: Memories to Keep, and Reading 2D: Precious Treasures student texts.
Within the readers, engaging artwork changes with each story and provides visual interest for early readers. Before reading the selection, an easy-to-understand page introduces a relevant literary element. The story is followed by a "Think and Discuss" section that features discussion questions and new vocabulary, and often also features a "Look Again" section that provides an additional activity or question. Interesting and developmen tally-appropriate selections come from a variety of sources, including realistic and historical fiction, fables, folktales, Bible accounts, biography, drama, and poetry. Chapters progress in difficulty and are sequenced for readability and skill progression.
The teacher's edition features two volumes. Reduced-size student reader pages are included with the margins filled with notes for the teacher. These helpful notes include information on the phonics used, objectives, a list of materials needed, "Before reading" work, questions to accompany the reading, and "After Reading" work including review questions, vocabulary pages, and workbook page assignments.
Two BJ Booklinks sets (book and BJ Booklinks guide) are also included: Pulling Together and The Treasure of Pelican Grove. The BJ Booklinks guides include a number of activities and questions to help students dig deeper into their readings, including a Scriptural application.
The Student Worksheets focus on specific reading skills such as phonics, comprehension, sequencing, and other early-reading skills. Students will finish sentence completions, number sentences in story order, match words to pictures, separate compound words, identify phonics elements within words, and more.
The Worktext Answer Key features full-size reproductions of the student workbook pages have the correct answers overlaid in pink ink for easy grading.
