BJU Press Math 1 Homeschool Kit (Updated 4th Edition)

BJU Press' Math 1 curriculum will engage your children in the learning process as they learn to solve math problems with a teacher and independently. The student worktext covers numbers, addition and subtraction facts up to 18, place value, measurement, geometry, money, time and fractions. Skills for writing equations, reading graphs, and problem solving are included alongside space for students to show their solutions by drawing or using provided pictures. BJU Press is a mastery-based curriculum with some spiraling review.

The teacher's guide features reduced-size student worktext pages with the correct answers overlaid for easy grading. The margins surrounding the student pages are filled with the teaching material; lessons are clearly identified at the top of the page with the worktext and review book page numbers. Lessons include an objectives list, any necessary teacher or student materials /manipulatives, and a step-by-step lesson with scripted questions. The appendix includes plenty of additional teaching helps and resources.

The included "Teacher's Toolkit CD" contains "To the Teacher" notes, the worktext answer key, reviews answer key, tests with coins (in color), visuals from the "Teacher's Visual Packet," instructional aids, math board suggestions, assessments, fact reviews, fact flashcards, extended activities, and more.

The Math 1 Review book provides two pages of review activities for each lesson in the Student Worktext. The front page reviews concepts using the format of the corresponding student worktext page and can be used to assess retention and understanding. The back page reviews concepts from previous chapters to help keep essential 1st grade concepts fresh. Chapter reviews (corresponding to the worktext chapter reviews) and cumulative reviews (providing spiral review) are included as well. Worksheets are black and white.

The reviews answer key features full-page, full-color reproductions of the student pages with the correct answers overlaid. Lesson and student page numbers are noted.

The student manipulatives packet is part of the BJU Press K5 and Grade 1 Math curriculum. It includes full-color, punch-out cardstock manipulatives that accompany the text, including: rulers, geometric shapes, number cards, ten frame and ten bars, coins and dollar bills, hundred squares, fractions, number line, and more.

Tests allow for easy assessment, and the test answer key for simple grading.
