I have two boys just over a year apart. I used Horizons with the first, but did think it went a little fast, my second son is more visual and auditory so I assumed Horizons would not work as well with him and thought I would use this program. End result was he really did not like it.

It has a huge amount of material, and was difficult for me as the teacher try to follow the designed program. There is a lot of teaching time, only a few worksheets and it felt as if there was too many expectations from the children to learn quickly.

Mid term I went back to Horizons and he has thrived. I would not recommend this program to everyone, but I am sure it works great for many. I love the English/Language arts program they offer and will move them onto second grade English after phonics is finished.

We absolutely have LOVED this curriculum for our first grade little boy. We started off the first 6 weeks of the year with a different LA program, and ended up with a frustrated and discouraged little boy. :( This program was our solution. Now he is SO confident and just doing so well!! His reading and comprehension have shot sky high. It has totally built his writing confidence. I love it, and will continue on with the next book next year!

Love it! Easy to follow instructions, and fun colorful workbook pages. Almost each lesson has a story the teacher reads, and then reading comprehension questions to ask at the end. Don't really care for the phonics cd though. There are songs for each letter, but they are hard to understand. There are words in the back of the teacher's manual. Next cd they should put songs that would excite a 1st grader. Other than that it is a great curriculum. Each week goes with reading and spelling work.
