We have used Bob Jones Math since Kindergarten. It is slightly ahead, I find, and does have a "school" feel, but it is very easy to use in a homeschool setting. The TG is a must. The main chunk of the review, the teaching and the answers are all in the TG. Basically all the "meat". It is very well organized, but may seem a tad overwhelming at first glance, but once you are a few lessons in you get the hang of it. It's scripted for parents who aren't strong in math, and easy to drop the scripting for those who prefer to teach in their own way. The pages are colorful and the expected work load is manageable. It is a very good program that teaches to multiple learning styles. It also teaches essential math vocabulary, which a lot of programs tend to skip. This is a program that requires a parent-teacher. It is not going to work if you want something the child can do themselves. You need to teach the lesson. If you teach everything, as scripted, a lesson is going to take about 25 mins to teach. We skip some of the review and don't always follow the lesson as written and we average about 15 mins a lesson.

Was only a few pages in, and my daughter was very frustrated. Teachers manual wasn't much help. Decided to change to Math U See.

I bought the book to keep up with what my daughter is learning in class. But, alas, I should have bought the teacher's edition, too! I am never sure if I am getting the answers right. I never doubted I am not smarter than a fifth grader!
