teaching4MOAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Pricy for just a workbook . . .April 3, 2014teaching4MOAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3I purchased this book with the hopes that it would be a good, well rounded, Christian based curriculum. What I did not want to do was to spend a lot of money on the curriculum. So I purchased this workbook with a set of the phonics story sheets to use as part of our Kindergarten work.
I quickly discovered there were things within the workbook that were confusing to me without a teacher guide. I also felt as though it just flew through each topic/item. It was great that the alphabet was listed on each introduction to a new letter, and a number line for the introduction to a new number, but I did not feel there was enough repetition to really learn the numbers and letters. My daughter didn't have a strong knowledge in writing letters and numbers prior to this. We did use Explode the Code books A, B and C along with this which provided for much practice in the letters.
There are many pages in the back of the workbook to cut out and glue into the daily work. One big problem is the pages are not perforated and multiple pages would come out as I tried to remove a page that was to be cut.
The pictures and coloring are very attractive and bright.
For us this was not great as we were not ready to move along so quickly, but it is a well written workbook. I really like the topics that it covers with the 6 different units. This is not a book my daughter asks to do.
Not a good fit for us, and I felt it was too expensive.
BeccaMNAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great curriculum!April 20, 2011BeccaMNAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Teaching my child to read has been so much easier than I expected. I also feel my kindergartner is getting a much better education with this program than he would otherwise. I can't believe that after doing this K5 curriculum my child is reading! He's only 5! My only complaint about this colorful and engaging program is the Bible verses are in King James. King James is a hard translation for many adults to understand, let alone Kindergartners! I'd rather my child be able to understand what the Bible is saying. So when his worksheet has a verse on it, I edit it and use words and language he would understand. He loves school!
Choi Chin Chow4 Stars Out Of 5February 18, 2009Choi Chin ChowThis worktext must be used together with the teacher manual. Without the teacher manual, you may not have any clue to start with it. Anyway, I shall say that the content is good and well structured.
