Publisher's Description

Once upon a time, a little bean called BJ was born. He lived in a tiny bean patch with his friends "Fenzie," the frog, "Anu," the ant, "B-B," the butterfly, and "Scooch," the squirrel. Everyday is an adventure as BJ learns counting, colors and shapes, ABC's, and the garden rules. BJ's Bean Patch Books are a collection of fun and colorful stories inspired to help children laugh, learn and grow. Carolyn Diann Thompson is a middle school teacher and advisor at Tri-L Christian Academy, where she has been an educator for more than 25 years. Because of her heartfelt passion for children and youth, she gives leadership to the youth ministry and serves in the eldership at New Covenant Perfecting Ministries Church in Apopka, Bishop Julia Wade. Carolyn is a 1984 graduate of the University of Central Florida. She currently resides in Sanford, Florida with her children Brandon Jerod, Sr. and Treien Vylauren. She is the proud grandmother of Brandon Jr. (BJ), the source of her inspiration to begin writing and creating BJ's Bean Patch collection.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Carolyn Thompson-Washington
Submitted: May 29, 2014

Tell us a little about yourself.  Because I am passionate when it comes to the education of children and youth, I have been a dedicated Christian teacher and youth leader for more than 28 years. Although, I have BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Fl, I believe early education is the key to help avoid the justice system.

What was your motivation behind this project?  My grandson, BJ, Brandon Jerod Thompson, Jr. He is the source of my inspiration. When he was born he looked just like a little bean, so I created the idea of learning in a garden patch with a few colorful friends.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  The idea that learning with friends can be fun and exciting for children. They will see the development of good core reading skills at the same time.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Because I believe in friendship, I was impacted to reaffirm my childhood friendships. My friends and I have decided to go on a few adventures as well.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My influences would have to be my sisters. We are a family of educators with over a 100 years of experience combined. I love to read the Bible stories and have them come alive. Author's such as Zora Neal Hurston, Mayo Angelou, Dr. Seuss, and Mrs. Coretta Scott King have all inspired me.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I love to see children laugh and grow.
