It was a complete surprise. When Dr. Kennedy entered the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, he thought he was attneding a Christmas dinner for the church choir. Not so. The word "Surprise" roared by a banquet crowd of more than 500 friends did just that, astonishing Dr. Kennedy who had no idea of the months of preparation for the delightful birthday celebration that took place December 9, 2005.
Hosted by Dr. Frank Wright, President of the National Religious Broadcasters, the evening, which took place several weeks after Dr. Kennedy's November 3rd birthday due to Hurrican Wilma, included special presentations from his daughter, Jennifer, longtime friend and evangelism mentor, Dr. Kennedy Smartt and numerous friends including Rich DeVos, Dr. James Dobson, Chuch Colson, Franklin Graham, Jerry Falwell, and others.
Leaders of ministries founded by Dr. Kennedy --- Coral Ridge Ministries, Evangelism Explosion, Knox Theological Seminary, WAFG-FM, and Westminster Academy --- made presentations and Dr. Billy Graham sent a letter offering "warmest greetings" and the comment that 75 "sounds so young to me." Special music was provided by two superb vocalists, Chris Holloway and Eric Thomas.
This two-hour DVD of that evening rekindles the warmth and delight of this very special birthday celebration.
