Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a follower of Christ and an adventurer and outdoor guide. I'm also a husband, father and cancer survivor. I have served with Cru since 2003, as a staff writer for Worldwide Challenge Magazine and as an outdoor guide with Lifelines Outdoors, the outdoor and experiential ministry of Cru. I also am the founder of Hope Has Arrived, a ministry which helps people find hope, strength and peace against cancer.
What was your motivation behind this project? I love God's Word, and also love outdoor adventure. I believe Creation and outdoor adventure are one of God's most extravagant gifts to us. Being someone who loves words and writing, I wanted to create a devotional that would delight and inspire people in outdoor pursuits and their own call of the wild, but even more than that, in their pursuit of God.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope by reading Called to the Wild, that people will grow in their love of God's Word and always trust The Guide (Jesus).
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Time in God's Word is never wasted...I enjoyed studying and pondering God's Word, as well as writing about some of my outdoor adventures and the experiences of others.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have many, but a few authors that I find inspiring are David H. Roper, John Eldredge, and Tim Keller.
