An incredibly comprehensive volume, written to suit the needs of pastors and lay leaders, but only for those churches who want to teach the whole counsel of God.
Very well organized and highly useful from the outset. I could hardly put it down, though it is a large book that weighs a lot :). One of the best books I've every acquired for my personal study and for preparing teaching lessons.
Complete treatise on our Christianity. A must have!!! I have given many away already and will in the future years. I personally am using mine as part of my Bible time as a devotional. I will cover just a few pages a day, as I am also using MacArthur's One Perfect Life and Spurgeon's Morning and Evening too. I estimate it will take me 3 glorious years to finish this new Systematic theology book in this manner. But what a daily blessing !
This systematic work represents MacArthur's magnum opus. It is the culmination of a lifetime of Biblical expository preaching. This work covers all aspects of the Christian life from creationism to eschatology. Please purchase this work for yourself or for your church's library. You will not be disappointed.
Now that John MacArthur completed a systematic theology book, it seems like he's done it all in the world of Christian literature. This definitely ranks with his study Bible and New Testament commentary series as one of his most important, substantial, and equipping pieces of work. It is no light effort, but a work that has been in development for 2 plus years, which gives a well-researched and thorough treatise of all subjects of systematic theology ranging from Bibliology to eschatology, each subject thoroughly explained with helpful illustrations, charts, and quotes along the way.
On average, I believe this is the most accurate systematic theology book I've come across. There are many other great works out there (including Wayne Grudem and John Frame's systematic theology books). Although these books explain core doctrines of the Christian faith pretty well, when it came to those "secondary issues" of doctrine, that's were it faltered, ranging from a false view of origins (theistic evolution) to confusing views of eschatology. Biblical Doctrine is committed to the grammatical-historical method of hermeneutics in interpreting biblical issues, which does the most justice in bringing out the clarity and practicality of every subject in the Bible. Like some of the book endorsement's claim, you might not agree with every doctrinal stance, but it's commendable that MacArthur and Mayhue have a consistent hermeneutics that really give us confidence in the literal truths and comprehensibility of Scripture, whether it be the salvation issue or end times issue.
Whether you are a pastor or layperson, this resource will be extremely beneficial and life changing. It is one of the best works ever produced from MacArthur, and has the ability to equip every person extravagantly for the work of ministry and discipling others
