Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) is known to be the definitive edition of the Hebrew Bible. It is widely regarded as a reliable edition of the Hebrew and Aramaic scriptures and is the most widely used original-language edition among scholars.
It is a revision of the third edition of the Biblia Hebraica edited by Rudolf Kittel, the first Bible to be based on the Leningrad Codex. The Leningrad Codex is the oldest complete Hebrew Bible still preserved. It originally appeared in installments, from 1968 to 1976, with the first one-volume edition in 1977; it has since been reprinted many times. The text is a nearly exact copy of the Masoretic Text as recorded in the Leningrad Codex. The Masoretic notes are completely revised.
Included is a foreword in German, English, French, Spanish and Latin as well as an English and German key to the Latin words, abbreviations and other symbols in the critical apparatus.
Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) Standard Edition features a larger size, bigger margins, a ribbon marker, and a generally more spacious appearance, making it particularly accessible to the student engaged in intense language study. All of the unique features of the text, including margin notes and footnotes, are broadly displayed and easy on the eyes.

Dom5 Stars Out Of 5Largest BHSSeptember 23, 2013DomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The reason I got this version was simply because of the size. They have several other versions of BHS out there, but this one is the largest, and thus has the largest print. If you're looking for portability, there are better options, but this version will give you the least strain on the eyes. Other than that, well.... it's BHS.
Gold Country Baptist Church5 Stars Out Of 5May 1, 2009Gold Country Baptist ChurchA great addition to the original languages of the Bible. BHS apparatus needs some latin understanding to use the symbols. I also own the electronic version. Great to see the work that the German Bible Society has contributed to Christian scholarship and getting into knowing God's Word.
Joel Hamme5 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2008Joel HammeThe standard edition of the BHS is the best edition of BHS to buy. Although it is a bit more cumbersome than the compact edition, the beauty of the font and the facility with which it is read more than makes up for this. This is especially valuable when doing a lot of reading, in order to save one's eyes. The CBD price of 49.95 simply cannot be beat.
Ask a Question▼▲
Q: does that have a clean text? I hate index, symbols, or whatever on the text. I do not mind they are put on the side or in the footnotes. The picture is blurring. Does that have a clean text by itself?
No, this book does include the footnote and extra markings in the text.
