What’s in the Bible for Mothers by Judy Bodmer is a great “instruction manual” for mothers of all ages. This book covers the entire spectrum of mothering – from new mother to grandmother – and a wide variety of subjects, including tough ones like homosexuality and death. The information is arranged in a very usable format, with the applicable Bible verses, and other sources of information listed in the sidebar, leaving the main text pretty much uninterrupted. I thought it was particularly insightful of her to include single mothers and to address how a certain piece of information or advice specifically applies to a single mother’s situation.

Ms. Bodmer is an accomplished speaker and writer on the subject of family and marriage. She is best known for her book When Love Dies: How to Save a Hopeless Marriage. I did not expect to become fully engaged with this book because I’m past the time of rearing children. But because of the interesting and straightforward way the information is presented, and the fact that the book isn’t just about child-rearing but speaks to women at all stages and all circumstances of their lives, it “spoke” to me at exactly the place in life I find myself now.

I wish this book had been written when I was bringing up my children, but I’m glad I at least had the opportunity to read it now. It is contemporary, pragmatic, well-organized, anecdotal, and encouraging. I highly recommend it. -- Sandra Herman, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
