There are times when all of the seriousness of life needs to be put aside for the sake of good humor, the joy of trivia, and outright silliness. Life has many serious moments born out of the unfortunate consequences of sin. In these times its good to remember that God has blessed us with good gifts. One of these good gifts that I am blessed to enjoy often is our family time around the table each evening. Sometimes these moments are serious and sometimes they are jovial. Often times the younger children ask . . . no. . .they BEG me to tell jokes. Its a rare occasion in which I have a joke that is actually funny. Most of them I get from www.lamejokes.org but that is not the point. The point is no matter how lame my humor is, my children always laugh. Well, I supposed this is only true of my younger children. My oldest daughter will give a sympathy laugh and my oldest son just rolls his eyes and tries very hard not to crack a smile.

Despite my robust repertoire, I have to admit that after a few round of jokes the wells begin to run dry. Enter Bible Trivia, Jokes, & Fun Facts, a new book authored by Troy Schmidt and published by Bethany House. Not only is it full of jokes that any 4-6 year old would love, but it is also a good starting point to help your children gain a little bit of Bible knowledge. I especially appreciate the section called Talk to Talk which has four pages of conversation starters perfect for those times in which the dinner table is silent and nobody is talking (Ive heard , but not verified that these moments do exist). The only thing that I was disappointed in was that the book ends with the typical alter call which has plagued Evangelicalism since the 1800s. I am among a growing number of conservative Christians who believe that this leaves an individual with a false sense of assurance. If I would add anything to it at all, it would simply be a disclaimer that reciting a prayer is not an incantation and cannot in any way conjure up favor with God. I would explain that repeating a prayer is not magic and is absolutely useless without saving faith and I would add that the evidence of salvation is not a prayer we prayed as a child but the fruit of the Spirit working out of our lives over time. It is the fruit that we can point to in order to say that we believe a person has been regenerated and not a prayer.

Criticism aside this book is one that will make you look like a rock star in the eyes of your children. Or if you purchase it for a child rather than to read during family moments, it will keep your children occupied for a very long time.

I have never been much of a joke teller but my children became interested in joke books when they each turned about 8. I've heard the same old jokes told over and over and obligingly laughed at each one. But I can tell you that Bible Trivia, Jokes, and Fun Facts for Kids has some funny stuff in it! Youngsters will find the jokes amusing and perhaps even sidesplitting. I admit my husband and I guffawed over a few of them; even our 19-year-old son cracked a smile a time or two. I'm hoping my grandsons are going to get many hours of hilarity out of this book. They are always excited to share a new joke with us and sometimes get so excited when trying to tell the joke that they can hardly speak for their own laughter bubbling over. I'm looking forward to laughing at these again and again!

Learning is a definite plus when it comes to the facts and trivia! I was surprised how much of it I didn't know. Several things even stumped my husband who is pretty good at Bible trivia. Granted, some of it is kind of obscure but it was still fun to put our old noggins to the test.

I highly recommend Bible Trivia, Jokes, and Fun Facts for Kids to the entire family! You'll share hours of fun and laughter and learn together.

This is a neat book for kids. There are humorous sections, while 0ther parts of the book have interesting facts to read about. There are some fill in the blanks and quizzes, too. Word scrambles, matching games, and even a section titled, Thats From the Bible?. That bit was pretty fun because, so often, a saying or motto that is well known has its origins in the Bible. This might be eye opening for some children.

For kids who are interested in random facts, there were lists toward the back of the book with these details in them. So, for the child who wants to know exactly how many words the book of Ezekiel has, they can find it here!

From my perusal of this book, it appears to have many different types of activities, so if one activity is not to the childs liking, he or she can simply move on to a different one. My personal feeling is that this book would work well for kids in the 9 to 12 year old range, with some variation on either end, of course, depending on the child.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

BIBLE TRIVIA, JOKES, & FUN FACTS FOR KIDS

    By Troy Schmidt

Most everyone enjoy playing trivia games and discover facts about a subject. This book covers the Bible in these categories. It is packed full to trivia questions and are fun to answer and will help everyone learn while they are playing a game. The title states FOR KIDS; I think this means kids of every age. The book can be used in Sunday School, family time studies and on game nights, or wherever you are. Included is a collection of knock-knock jokes that are quite humorous. Facts about the Bible that should be known by all. You get fill-in the blank questions, multiple-choice questions and many trivia questions. It is fun for everyone and what a better way to bring the family together and have a learning time of the Bible.

One of the knock, knock jokes:

Knock, Knock, Whos There? Eve, Eve who? Its me Adam! Theres only one other person in the Earth! Who do you think it is?

The book is done all in fun and an easy way to enjoy learning facts about the Bible.

Bible Trivia, Jokes and Fun Facts for Kids is a great book written by Troy Schmidt. I especially enjoyed the fun facts in this book Using Isaiah 53:2-3, the author tells us The passage says Jesus did not attract people by His looks. He was a regular-looking guy not a hunky model or a tall, dark, and handsome carpenter. Isaiah also prophesied that Jesus would live a hard life (and it showed) but that He has an extraordinary love inside Him that drew many to Him.

Schmidt uses jokes, fill in the blanks, word scrabble and words in words as some ways to help teach children the Bible in fun ways. This book, however, will be enjoyed by all ages. The jokes and facts within this book would be great openers at Bible Studies, youth groups and even Pastor's sermons. The author also gives questions that can be used to build a conversation around Bible people and happening. Grade school children will spend hours looking through this book to find jokes to stump the people in their lives. The back of the book also has blank pages for write notes and additional jokes. The answers to the Bible trivia questions are provided up side down at the bottom of the pages so the reader can see their answers quickly and easily without searching for answers. This a great book that will help teach and provide lots of fun for all ages.

I received this book from Bethany House Publishing. This is my honest review.
