jberry10035 Stars Out Of 5EXCELLENT!August 13, 2017jberry1003Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I cant express just how helpful this book is. Bible Overview started with great general facts about the Bible, letting you know how the entire Bible came to be the canonized book that it is today and how to get the best out of the Bible while you study it. It gave me a solid starting point and let me know what to expect as I studied the holy books. I was also delighted to find detailed information for each individual book explaining the purpose of the book, an outline of the key teachings and events, a background on the author of that book, an approximate date for the book with an illustrated timeline, the setting, themes, key verses, and a way to tie the presence of Jesus in each book. This book is not a Bible itself, but meant to help you understand each book in the Bible as you read and study. I would recommend reading the overview for the Bible book in Bible Overview before and during the study of each book in the Bible. Overall, Im excited to have got this book and give it 5 stars! This is perfect for pastors and students alike.

Timothy MillsAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Review of "Bible Overview"August 1, 2017Timothy MillsAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The book portion I was given for Bible Overview for review was 20 pages from the 275 page book (which I have). Rose Publishing lists the book for $19.99, plus tax and shipping costs. It is available as a book, a downloadable PDF, a pamphlet (English and Spanish), and as a Power Point presentation. Very good! I did not find an ISBN or LoC number in the downloaded PDF.
The contributors to the book are: Benjamin Galan, MTS, ThM; Jessica Curiel, MA; Shawn Vander Lugt, MA; William Brent Ashby, BT. The cover and beautiful design are by Monty Morgan and Sergio Urquiza.
I plan to make this a Bible Study text book for my church, especially for those leading and teaching Bible classes. This book made a very favorable impression for me. All of the Rose Publishing materials excel graphically as does this book. Some of my favorite product features are the colorful and interesting design and layout. The maps are detailed, and the charts are informative. The timeline is especially helpful in correlating the Bible events with the books of the Bible. The various categories of Scripture are color coded for ease of reference. The Introduction has several excellent features that I like: How We Got the Bible, and Reasons to Study the Bible, among others.
The strengths of the book are the charts which present the content. Charts often can show correlations that cannot be seen in books that are just text. The format of the book is very favorable to teaching it as a Bible Study text for a church study group. It is not designed as a college or seminary level book, but rather for a local church group to use. Where understanding is open to interpretation, it gives the options fairly and without bias toward one over another. This is specifically so in the four views of Revelation. All four are presented in words that their advocates would agree with, and are laid out in charts and graphs for easy comparisons.
One weaknesses I noted was in the page How We Got the Bible, item number 4 says: The books of the Bible were collected and arranged and recognized as inspired sacred authority by councils of rabbis and councils of church leaders based on careful guidelines. But that is not quite accurate: The criteria of the selection of NT books revolved around their apostolicity. These books were collected and preserved by local churches in the continuing process of their worship and need for authoritative guidance for Christian living. The formation of the canon was a process, rather than an event, that took several hundred years to reach finality in all parts of the Roman Empire. Judaism, as well as Christianity as a whole, believes that the Spirit of God was operative in some providential way in the production and preservation of his Word.
I know of no other books concerning this subject matter that compare with the design and layout of the book. Others compare unfavorably in that they are dense with text and have few charts and maps, which this book uses so well. The colorful and thoughtful charts and maps make this book particularly appealing.
Rose Publishing has provided me with an advanced reader copy of 20 pages from the full volume of 275 pages. Of those 275 pages, 5 (I V) were front matter, including facts of publication, and another four pages of advertisements for other books and materials from the publisher at the end.

In reviewing the Bible Overview I was initially pleased to find detailed and well organized outlines, maps and summary information in a format easily readable. I particularly like the numbered boxes noted inside the colored maps which indicate the order of events as they occurred at the specific locations.
I would like to have also seen dates inside the boxes to reference timelines while reading the maps. A few things I think would be nice to have in this book are historical timeline charts at the end of each book of the bible along with explanations of local manners and customs, phrases, weights, measures, difficult Bible sayings, colloquialisms etc. for each bible book.
An added section on How to study your bible, prayer for salvation and why use a bible overview for bible study would be especially helpful for novice Bible scholars or even someone who is not a Christian but maybe searching for truth.
I was offered a free copy of this book but decided to purchase my own e-book copy for research and to review. I was not disappointed and I find it especially helpful that the book is currently available for Kindle. Hopefully it will also be available on Audible for listening although I do not know how it would work out for the maps. If you need a thorough resource for bible study, this is a great book.
Deb TLos Angeles, CAGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent resource for your librarySeptember 18, 2013Deb TLos Angeles, CAGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I got a chance to review the book I was drawn in from the introduction!
As I moved through its pages I found engaging text easy to understand by the novice while holding the interest of the seasoned Bible scholar. The beginning of the overview points out important keys to keep in mind as one moves on the exciting, transformational journey of examining the word of God.
Each book of the Old and New Testament is illustrated by a descriptive summary that is accompanied by an artist rendering or photograph. Images of artifacts are peppered throughout the text, bringing concepts and cultural themes to life. Significant terms and phrases are defined in a way that creates a seamless flow in the content. Easy to read maps and graphics allow the reader to connect deeply to the events.
There is a section in each summary that shows a direct link between then (what happened in Biblical times) and how those events carry over to now. This one highly, valuable, tool efficiently replaces three reference volumes currently in my library. I recommend this text to everyone interested in deepening their understating of God, His word and His Love!
