Tell us a little about yourself. As a broadcast veteran I have been exposed to media communication for more that 30 years. I began writing professionally in 1995. Today I continue both traditions.
What was your motivation behind this project? This project really is as strong a connection to my own father as any book I have been honored to be a part of. The lessons I can share from my own life were either caught or taught from a quiet, intelligent, and incredibly dedicated dad.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? That the journey with Jesus is not self-help, but a marathon. We race to win, but our competition is not those who run with us, but our own self-interests. Our progress is impeded when we think Christianity is something to wear only when convenient.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I thought of my own son, and the man who will one day marry my daughter, This book became, for me, a guide to the wisdom I would want to pass on to them.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Bodie Thoene was the one who convinced me years ago to begin writing. I had interviewed her (as well as her husband Brock) numerous times and she is the one who suggested I share my stories. Beyond that it would be my father, my wife, my family, and the authors of hundreds of books I read to prepare for radio interviews over many years.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Nothing is so sweet as diving deep into God's Word and leaving satisfied. My hope is that this book can point you in some good directions, but the core brilliance will be in the opportunity to take in God's Word, memorize what you find, and pluck it back from your mind any time you need it.
