When Pontius Pilate ordered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he thought he was putting an end to the Jewish uprising that had been threatening the authority of the Roman Empire. What Pilate didn’t realize, however, was that real revolution was just getting started.

In this authorized tie-in to the NBC television mini-series, Evangelical pastor, David Jeremiah, presents, in his own words, an easy-to-follow narrative of the first eleven chapters of the Book of Acts. Jeremiah provides insightful background and offers valuable applications for believers in the twenty-first century.

Unfortunately, as with the other A.D. tie-in aimed at Evangelicals, "A.D. The Bible Continues: The Book of Acts: The Incredible Story of the First Followers of Jesus, according to the Bible," Jeremiah often lapses into praising men rather than God by referring to certain apostles and deacons as "great" and "finest," etc. Don't you just cringe when pastors and other Christian leaders appeal to fleshly pride? All glory to God!. I would easily recommend this book, "The Revolution That Changed The World," over "The Book of Acts" package. After reading both it's clear "The Book of Acts" was intended more for seekers and new believers while "The Revolution That Changed The World" is geared more to the "seasoned" believer but that distinction won't be readily apparent to the shopper or library patron.

I'm enjoying most of the A.D. mini-series (produced by) Roma Downey, and her husband, Mark Burnett) and I enjoyed both Jeremiah books (two authorized Catholic-oriented tie-in books have also been published) but Christians must be discerning. My Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, died on the cross to pay for ALL of my sins and provided the ONLY way to the Father through faith in Him. No one can possibly merit their way to Heaven as the Roman Catholic church teaches. "I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!" - Gal. 2:21. Praise the Lord my God.

I received this book from the publisher for an honest review.

With the popularity of the TV series by the same name, "A.D. The Bible Continues: The Revolution That Changed the World," is a perfect read. Following Paul, Peter, and other early notable biblical figures through the first 11 chapters of Acts, Dr. David Jeremiah uses a narrative style to show us details we may never have seen before. For instance, a good example is how he shows us, in-depth, the points Stephen made in his speech prior to being stoned--and how the Jewish leaders would have understood it from their point of view. It's easy to see how incensed they became by the arguments he made against them. Dr. Jeremiah does this for each of the chapters he narrates, giving us a fresh look at familiar territory.

Two other features of this book are quite enamoring. First, the insets throughout that illustrate key people, places, and terms allow the reader to glean some "behind the scenes" information. Second, each chapter, after narrating the text, includes application of biblical concepts to the believer's life. For instance, the chapter on Stephen's martyrdom then takes us through the greatness, challenge, and reward of serving.

This book would be easy for someone who is not a believer to read and understand. In fact, because it is so biblically sound, I could see someone who is not familiar with the Bible finding this a great introduction to the Word of God. On the other hand, for seasoned believers, this provides a new look and some deeper "nuggets" about stories they know and love. A win for everyone!

Dr. Jeremiah's site offers more information, as well as clips from the show.

I received this book free of charge from Tyndale Publishers in exchange for a fair review.

This companion book to the NBC Miniseries, A.D.:The Bible Continues, traces the origins of the early church, starting with the crucifixion of Christ and continuing through the resurrection, the persecution of Peter, the conversion of Saul, and the missionary journeys of Paul. The bulk of the text itself is the book of Acts in the New Living Translation, without the verse numbers and chapter divisions that you see in a standard Bible. It feels more like reading a regular book, allowing you to get caught up in the story---the opposition, the enemies, the persecution, the miracles, the passion of those first followers of Jesus.

Dr. David Jeremiah shares insights about the historicity of the church, the veracity of Scripture, and the context of the events in his notes and insights in the book. He includes biographies on the major players, making the people in Scripture 'come alive.'

The book reads easily and seamlessly, making this a solid and engaging introduction to the Bible. Key word there is 'introduction.' Those who love reading the Bible already aren't going to find much here that is new or enlightening. If you have a Bible with study notes, you probably aren't going to buy this book. However, the target audience is likely those with little or no Biblical background. Or, for those who have tried to read the Bible before but struggled because they feel it is 'dry,' this might be a great way to start fresh. It could also make a great gift for others (especially teens and young adults) and might work well for family devotions (read the book/watch the show and discuss).

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this book, even caught myself making notes in it, which rarely ever happens when I read books, but I can see myself going back and reading it again, and writing even more notes.

The book starts out with a quick historical introduction to before Jesus was born, from Abraham onwards. Its quick, and not very detailed, having compressed 2000ish years worth of history into 6 pages, but its an easy way to refresh your Biblical history. After the introduction starts the story behind the day Jesus was tried, condemned, sentenced and killed through a very gory crucifixion. Each chapter after that presents the happenings (the disappearance of the body of Jesus and appearance to the women, then disciples) as they occur chronologically, and explains it in understandable level that the every day reader can get, not requiring the reader to need a masters degree in theology.

It is great to see the immediate present after the crucifixion explained in such easy to understand language, as well as the people surrounding it. I have found the people in the Bible to be very dry and hard to understand at times. Books like these truly bring them to life again in a fascinating way.

I made sure to finish this book before I watched the first episode of the mini-series presented on NBC: AD: The Bible Continues created by LightWorkers Media.
