The pictures are on every other page, mostly because there is some bleed through. Placing a piece of paper between the pages while coloring is the best way to prevent damage to the page underneath. The coloring pages are fun to fill in, and my 10 year old daughter loves it (that is why I bought 2!). I did not see any mandalas, but perhaps they are hidden. Mostly just flowers, butterflies, bees, and text :)
