Let me preface this review, I do not own a TV, consequently, I don't watch TV or Cable, etc. Why? I don't want to have the filth of commercials and dirty programming in my home. That doesn't make me better than any one, it's just my preference. How did I watch this DVD? On my computer. Yes, I know the arguments that go with that, but we are here to preview "Beyond the Next Mountain". It opens with a missionary taking the Gospel to a tribe that has never heard. A young boy gets saved as a result of the missionary and in time he becomes the leader of the tribe. Seeing how important it is that his people have the word of God, his son surrenders to be the one to translates the word of God into the tribal language. You see the dedication this young man has to fulfill the "need" of this tribe. War (WWII) breaks out and the young man becomes a messenger. When he is introduced to the commanding officer there is a 20 second scene where you see a woman in his bed and when she rolls over you can see that she is naked. Her tribal blanket is shown and you know where she is from. Yes, I hear the groans and see the eyes rolling, but this is why I don't have a TV. I am very careful about what movies I watch, if any! That means something to me, because I don't want to set any wicked thing before my eyes. I imagined sitting down with my family of young children, what kind of message does that send, what about my husband!?! Yet, when the word of God finally gets produced and this young man finds "the missionary", I cried my eyes out. How often do I take for granted that I have the word of God at my fingertips!?! Yes, I LOVED this movie, but why did they have to put that 20 seconds in that has NOTHING to do with the story!?! Yes, the officer was a sinner and he needed salvation (so are and did we), but do we have to show things like that that have no crucial information on the story!?! Would I recommend this DVD? Yes, but please preview it first and be aware of that scene. Don't let your family see that. It isn't necessary to the story line at all. What a blessing to have heard about a village that had a leader that saw the importance of having the word of God. For a young man who worked excruciatingly hard to bring the word of God to his people. The hours of sacrifice!!!!!! May the Lord reward them both for their desire and determination!!
Have you ever experienced huge losses trials and setbacks to hinder or keep you from doing the will of God? Then this video will inspire you! I have showed this video to many youth ages 12-18 and they loved it. The trials and setbacks endured by the those who sought to advance the gospel will encourage you to stay the course God has for you! Everyone should purchase a copy for your church and personal copy to view and loan to others. It is also highly educational and will introduce you to an entire era gone by.
I do not like giving negative reviews but the dvd had poor quality and poor acting. The story in itself was great but everything else in it brought it way down. We had our daughter and their husband over and they watched it. They are in their twenties. It did not hold their interest and found it boring. I would only give it a 5 out of 10.
