I have always enjoyed legal thrillers; they are some of my favorite reads.
I really enjoyed this one. The mystery of it and the legal side keep the pace and the pages moving quickly. There is romance, but it's in the background. When reading this genre that's exactly where I prefer it.
The surprises, great characters, and mild faith thread made this a thrilling read. I had a hard time putting it down! Must admit to a bit of it being unbelievable, but the longer I live the easier it is to believe that over- the- top isn't necessarily really in that category anymore.
I really hope we get more from this author in this genre!
I received this read through Fiction Guild. All opinions are my own.
Jennybug524 Stars Out Of 5Beyond JusticeJune 13, 2017Jennybug52Quality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 44 stars- "Beyond Justice" tells the story of Hayden McCarthy, an up and coming D.C. lawyer, who is given the case that just might make her career-or will it destroy it? Andrew Wesley, Hayden's roommate's cousin, is a very handsome distraction that is more involved in her case that he realizes.
This is the first book that I have read by Cara Putman and I really enjoyed it. Cara is amazing in all that she is able to do- a lawyer, an author and a home schooling mom?! This was a well written novel that clearly showed the author's knowledge of her subject. I felt the story was plausible and made sense without going over the top just for shock factor. There was a good combination of romance, suspense and investigative storytelling. I look forward to reading Hayden's roommate Emilie's story in the next book in the series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Deana5 Stars Out Of 5High Profile CaseJune 13, 2017DeanaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I just love this author's books. They are always written with such intricate knowledge of the subject and the story comes alive with realism. I loved the subject of immigration and how the author gave details of what someone goes through to come to the United States. Sometimes people get lost in the red tape and this leads us to a non stop action filled story that keeps readers on the edge of their seat.
Hayden has just won a case that everyone said she couldn't win. She is tough as nails and I love her compassion for her clients . When she receives a new case, things don't add up for her. It seems every time she tries to get answers , she is stopped, scared away or lied to. Why did a young boy die while in a detention center? His mother believes he was killed and the government was involved. Can you imagine taking on the government and accusing them of killing a young boy who just wanted to have a better life?
I did like Anderson and thought he was perfect for Hayden. Anderson has his own problems with a father who has his eyes set on a more powerful influence in the political world. Does Andrew support his father's political views? I did like that Andrew worked with helping immigrants and how that intertwines with Hayden's battle to find justice for a young boy and his family.
The author has strong characters that are determined to fight for what they believe in. There is some very intense scenes that bring this story to a high caliber thriller. I loved the faith that several characters had and never deterred from it even in the midst of danger. Will Hayden find the answers she needs before more people die? Get ready for a book that is filled with lies, secrets, drugs and a story that delivers a powerful ending.
I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild. The review is my own opinion.
ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fascinating with great twistsJune 11, 2017ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Beyond Justice is the first of Cara Putman's books that I've read and it won't be the last. The storyline was intriguing. I'd never known about the immigration detention holding areas used for juveniles. She did a great job of explaining the information and keeping my interest with a fascinating story.
A sweet boy caught between his crimelord father and desperate mother is murdered for information that could save or destroy his family. Hayden is a conscience attorney dragged between doing the right thing and her insane employers. The who-done-it in this legal thriller is twisted and unsuspecting. It's a page turner of a book!
I found Beyond Justice to be story worth sharing and will be adding more of Cara Putman's books to my to-be-read pile. Thank you to Thomas Nelson Publishers, NetGalley and the Fiction Guild for the opportunity to read Beyond Justice.
SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Legal ThrillerJune 5, 2017SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5** "Jaime knew that Hayden believed in a Savior who could carry you on your hardest days and bring hope into the darkest corners." **
Having just won an unwinnable case, Hayden McCarthy is working hard to rise in the ranks at her law firm. Everything is looking good until her boss gives her an unusual case -- suing the U.S. government in a wrongful death situation.
The legal case in Cara Putman's "Beyond Justice" involves Miguel, a teen who illegally crossed the border and then was detained in a Texas holding center. While there, he was murdered, which was subsequently covered up and denied. His mother, who was married to a man believed to head a drug cartel, wants answers to his death, and to hold those responsible accountable.
As her boss insists she win the case, the firm blocks every step of her way. And as more and more odd and dangerous events occur, Hayden begins to wonder just what she has gotten involved in -- and is she safe?
Meanwhile, her roommate Emilie introduces Hayden to her cousin Andrew Wesley, the son of a congressman. Andrew is involved with an organization that works with immigrant children, helping them to adapt to live in America. Coincidentally, he just happens to work with Miguel's younger brother, Jorge.
As the relationship between Hayden and Andrew sparks and grows, will their jobs intermingle as Hayden works to solve Miguel's murder, and Andrew works to keep Jorge and his mother safe?
Filled with many twists and turns and a number of harrowing situations, "Beyond Justice" is a fast-paced legal thriller told from the perspectives of both Hayden and Andrew, as well as an occasional blip from the perspective of a mysterious man involved in Miguel's death.
As the title hints, justice is a main theme of the novel, pointing out how justice works better when everything is out in the open. Not overly religious, the book does offer several mild references to God, Jesus and faith in Him. It points out how a life lived in abandon to God can have big consequences on the world, and how everyone can make a difference. And it also reminds us that Jesus is always there to carry our burdens for us, and that there is always hope, even in the darkest moments.
Fans of authors like John Grisham will love this book.
Five stars out of five.
